Sure. The Rs filibustered so much that the Ds eliminated the filibuster for executive appointments and judges below the Supreme Court. Then when the Rs gained the majority, the Ds filibustered everything. Including Justice Gorsuch - which led to the Rs eliminating the filibuster on Supreme Court justices.

Except for budget reconciliation and judges, the Rs haven’t gotten anything through Congress lately either. The problem of course is that they’re fine with tax cuts and judges and racist executive orders.

Week before last, all the Senate Dems voted to use budget reconciliation for Covid relief. So most of that process can go forward without a filibuster. Now it’s a matter of what Manchin/Sinema/Feinstein will approve.

Maybe not, but I am not sure if Biden can afford to continue to throw her out in public eyes as Press Sec.. The impeachment trial is getting the attention now, but at some point her tweet will become center stage. Not sure it's going to be a good look on the administration part to have her out there when it does.

This came up before in another thread, and it's not just the Midwest. Growing up in California there was a chain of stores called Lucky and 99% of people called it Lucky's.

Yeah, it's the same in Chicago. Goes beyond stores to Soldiers Field and Wrigleys Stadium (yes).

Comiskey Park isn't pluralized, it's just changed to Cominskey.

I haven't heard the soundbite, but I feel with places like that it's more "possessive phrasing" than "pluralization."

I'd call Osco Drug "Osco's" growing up or Kroger "Kroger's" now. It's a proper noun and you're going to their store. Or even "Aldi's" when I lived in Germany. (And I called it "Lucky's" too when I lived in Salinas.)

Doesn't help that other similar places are "Albertsons," "Shaw's," Arizona regional supermarket "Bashas" and "Trader Joe's" amongst others.

Edit: Googling now, "Bashas" is actually a plural possessive. The family is named "Basha" and they add the 's' with the apostrophe after it.

We had Osco in Southern California for a while and they were renamed to Sav-on. The rumor was that it was because "Osco" sounded like a Spanish term for vomiting.

No idea. I think it is going to depend on Manchin and Sinema, since I don't think any Republicans will be on board.

I think it's likely that *a* relief bill will pass the Senate, and it will be a huge ton of money. But it probably won't be the full $1.9 trillion Biden asked for, and it might not include a nationwide $15 minimum wage (which isn't really Covid relief anyway, but if they can get away with it, why not).
