I just happen to think he makes some good points. Not politically, of course, but about how powerful adults should remain deified as long as they keep winning sports games while doing the absolute bare minimum to stop an active pedophile.

I don't know how he gets more triggered for defending JoePa than by being a closet Trump stan, if you want to know the truth. The latter should be like 100 times more embarrassing.

Get that stimmy.

Last year we did kind of splurge on a new bed plus it helped pay for costs for daughter moving into an apartment, but it wasn't something that we probably wouldn't have been able to swing, just saved a few months interest.

This year, it's extra helpful because my company canceled bonuses this year. I've never accounted for the bonus as everyday living, but with the changes in company reimbursement for my MBA, the stimmy is going to help out massively.

We even got it for the oldest daughter in college, so we will just send that to her because she is basically paying most of her expenses as is right now through loans and what she saved last summer (which is pretty low at this point).

Yes it should ... and it's a great first step. Unfortunately increasing taxes only on $400K and above won't be nearly enough to do what we really need to do.

Exactly. What kind of bullshit is that. Spend how many trillions and then think youre going to make it up on 0.1% How about an actual funding mechanism for all the money thats been spent over the last 12 months. And folks on here talking about a national high speed rail system. The answer is cut entitlements, healthcare, military and raise taxes on all over about $100k if you want those things.

Got mine today. Was surprised by the amount. We received for three people this time (my dependent daughter, my wife and me). It was only for my wife and me last year. Did something in the eligibility rules change? (I suppose I could research this myself, but I'm hoping one of you has a quick answer so I don't have to do that.)
ETA: OK, figured it out. This time, adult dependents get money. Last time, they had to be age 17 or less.

I'm not sure anyone wants to cut social services to fund fast trains.

I dont either but why bother bringing up trains at all if youre not willing to raid social security and medicare/medicaid. And it's not only trains. Lots of the platform preferred by most on this board require serious financing conversations. Ones that democrats never seem to have and instead people applaud bullshit lies like tax raises on $400k+. Not enough of those folks to finance anything. Try capital gains rates. Try hitting the big tax deductions. Try earned income credits.

Because you don't need to raid social services to fund rail expansion. But you do need broad-based tax increases.

What do you think the cost of a high speed rail system would be? Those costs are upfront and wall street ain't buying those bonds unless they have a treasury guarantee.

One doesn't have to exclude the other and any sort of us versus them framing is a really good (and unexpected) start.

If you want to go the Us vs. Them route, knock a fraction of a percent off of the lower brackets, so GOP has to answer why they don't want to lower taxes on the vast majority of Americans.

I'm more talking about defraying the benefit that would go from taxing higher incomes, and then counter with tax cuts, albeit minimal ones, that even with the decreased revenue from the poors, there's still a net increase.

Like if raising the brackets on $400K by 2.5% results in an extra $400B in revenue (and these numbers are coming out of my ass for mere discussion purposes), lowering the lowest bracket by a quarter of a percent means a loss in $100B in revenue. That's still a net $300B. (Again, using out of the ass math).

We can't have any nice things because they cost too much meanwhile we spend the most on military than anyone else on the planet exactly how many times over?

Stole my post on both points. If Amazon paid 5% in taxes we could fund the high speed rail. How much profits does Amazon make, and they don't pay a penny in taxes? While they do hire workers, I'd guess they hurt the economy more by driving small stores out of business, so why are we rewarding them with zero taxes?
