LeMond is getting LeMedal
velonews wrote: On Sunday, Greg LeMond is expected to become America’s 10th individual athlete – and the first cyclist – to receive the Congressional Gold Medal, one of the nation’s highest civilian honors.

But Congress loves bicycles, and it loves LeMond. The medal cleared the House in September 2019, and the Senate on November 16. On November 24, 2020, the measure passed to President Donald Trump, triggering a 10-day countdown for him to sign the bill, veto it or do nothing. A veto seems unlikely. If POTUS does nothing, the bill becomes law at the end of December 5

Check out the cyclocross world championship highlights...just for the course. Cyclo cross is like a cross country cycling nascar obstacle course race. This was done at a horse track near the beach. Crazy.

Cyclocross is the winter racing style in Europe. Usually a fun carnival experience with beer and waffles.

I have friends who do cyclo-cross races. They are nuts.

ETA: One of them only does cyclo-cross...no road races. When I asked him why, he told me 'It hurts less when you fall in a cyclo-cross race'.

First time I ever saw it, I stumbled onto it as I was going to for a run in Marymoor Park.It was wild to see really fast bike racing on grass, up the side of the velodrome, on the track, jumping hurdles, and pit crews hosing down bikes. I stopped my run, bought a waffle and beer.

Why didn't I know that on the Peacock app there is a alternative Euro feed for Tour coverage? Way better graphics, no ads, and no Bob Roll.

One of the guys on EF who did not race the Tour this year rode the whole thing unsupported. And by the whole thing he also rode the transfers between each stage. Beat the tour to Paris by 5 days. Some good articles covering it, but the fact I liked was he gave up on bike shoes because of knee pain, switched to sneakers but wore through them in day and then switched to Birkenstocks.

I’ve been so impressed with Sepp Kuss. He appears to be Jumbo V’s top domestique, and honestly isn’t far from seeming to have the talent to be a genuine GC competitor.

And I hate it, but Pogacar has to be a drug cheat, right? Last person I recall pulling away like that on two straight mountain stages was.

Certainly seems suspicious...especially at his young age. Most tour riders don't hit their prime until their late 20's.

If you want to see some epic cycling pics..look at yesterday's Paris-Roubaix photos. A rainy Roubaix race is fun and guys look like folks from yesteryear racing.

This race is dirt, cobblestones, etc.

This was the winner

Yes...it was epic yesterday. Only caught the last 30 minutes or so, but it looked so damn miserable.

I’ve seen a lot of pics of rainy, muddy P-R races from the olden days, but I never got to watch one before. What an amazing, absurd race.

A fun story about how the Tour the France commentators know all the sights on the route.

Tourism France gives these guys an encyclopedia every year.

Scary story...

Cyclist Egan Bernal recovering from spinal and leg surgery after crash in Colombia
Cyclist Egan Bernal, the 2019 Tour de France winner, underwent surgery on his spine and right leg after a high-speed collision with a bus while training Monday in his native Colombia.

Bernal, a 25-year-old Ineos Grenadiers rider, was in an intensive care unit at a Bogotá hospital Tuesday morning. He underwent procedures to repair a fractured femur and kneecap and also suffered a collapsed lung. The spinal surgery “kept intact the neurological integrity and conserved the functionality of the segments involved,” Clinica Universidad de La Sabana said in a statement.
Look at the picture here....yikes...

Was that bus parked when he hit it?

I read that a second Ineos rider had a bad accident this week. This must be some training session.

UCI Esport Championship is Saturday. It ends up being about a 45 minute race. I watched last year. Very compelling as the production was very good. I am a bit of a mark as I am pretty addicted to zwift.

The ride across the bridge was nuts.

It was awesome seeing how many Danes turned out to see the stage. Huge crowds on the small climbs.

And as a reminder...if you have a Peacock subscription...they have an alternative feed with different announcers (Anthony McCrossan and Simon Gerrans). No Phil, but also better on screen graphics, less ads, and no Bob Roll.
