Also had a cb radio - I'd sit in my Dad's car and talk to my friend who had a unit in his room.

Yup. 10-4 Good Buddy. KABZ8964 Clear.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I haven’t seen it since a stay-at-home date night I had with some girl I was dating in HS (circa ‘87-‘88). I scored points for sitting through it. I mean, I guess it was OK, but I was viewing it as a chick flick (at that age, anyway).

That's funny! My first real date was seeing "Fame" in the theatre.
Hated every second of it, but she was very sweet.

My first real date I was 12. Spring of 1983. 7th grade was winding down and I remember a girl checking me out at one of the school dances, so I went for it. I took Amy to see The Return of the Jedi. The guys razzed me about it. But she was excited to see it, so why not?

My first real date was when i was 16. Took the girl to see One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I realized before the date that it was rated "R", which meant you had to be 17 to get in - my date was 17 but I wasn't (and, even worse, I looked about 14), and of course I was completely stressed out about possibly being refused entry, which would have humiliated me. Luckily, the bored kid at the ticket window barely looked up at me, so it was no issue.
Back to the subject at hand. Here's a mediocre theme song to a mediocre movie ("Teacher Teacher" for "Teachers" (1984), starring JoBeth Williams, Nick Nolte, and Ralph Macchio!)

Same title... much better song.

That movie came out pretty much just when I entered high school as a freshman. It scared the crap out of me.sancarlos wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 7:11 pm My first real date was when i was 16. Probably. Randomly listening to Duran Duran today brought this one back:
How do you all get your death notices since I left?
Re: Friday Music Discussion - Movie Songs Named For The Movie
Not sure why I didn’t think of this the other night when I mentioned the lesser Batman movies
Which then reminded me of a couple more. 90s movie rap songs could be a sub-genre

Woke up at 4 something and after an hour something of not being able to fall back asleep went downstairs to watch TV. Robocop 2 was on TCM, so I watched the end, including the credits. While I don’t know that this is exactly in the spirit of the thread, the part when the chorus kicks in at around 1 minute in works.

Running Scared has a title song, but it pales in comparison to this fucking gem

Underrated movie. And the title song sucks.

I just don't get yacht rock.

Re: Friday Music Discussion - Movie Songs Named For The Movie
Well, the Michael McDonald song linked by rass is a banger. The title song from Running Scared is absolutely NOT yacht rock though.

Re: Friday Music Discussion - Movie Songs Named For The Movie
I'll challenge that notion. Michael McDonald's voice pushes it into the Yacht Rock Universe. That chorus? Yeah.

Re: Friday Music Discussion - Movie Songs Named For The Movie
I'd consider it in the genre of YachtRock: Soul.
Like What a Fool Believes. Really, anything Michael McDonald has ever done. Except for that time I saw him play the role of Garth Hudson in a reenactment of the Last Waltz. That wasn't very yacht rock-y.

Honestly, I find that to be a contradiction in terms.

AKA Blue-eyed soul.

Re: Friday Music Discussion - Movie Songs Named For The Movie
To each his own opinion, but I’d say that blue-eyed soul has a lot more depth than yacht rock.

Re: Friday Music Discussion - Movie Songs Named For The Movie
Regardless of how brian felt about the song it was a huge hit and ubiquitous and inextricable from the movie and given all of that I think Bobby Brown did a great job with the sequel?

Even if listening to this on the radio yesterday I thought he used "chodes" in the lyrics but it was in fact "children".
