I mean it would have to be Giants. They always win battle royals.

PR-wise it's a genius move cuz it gives the faithful a unique & genuine reason to rally 'round the franchise.

I'm guessing they'll improve on the logo after it gets crowd-shared a bit. I seem to recall that happening with the Baltimore Ravens anyway.

Domingo German going for a 28 out no-hitter, already through 7 innings. Hope he gets it! Very easy guy to root for!

Swept out of KC this weekend, which is more like it (along with the four-game sweep they suffered in MIN prior to the All-Star Break).

Aren’t the Yankees the only team to have lost a game this year after being ahead by 4 or more runs in the 8th inning or later?

They’ve done this three times.

I believe that’s correct. I don’t know Cashman’s or Boone’s leash but I’d love to see atleast a bullpen sale at the deadline. Flip a (non-Torres) righty or two if you can but I kinda doubt that would be worth it.

Astros sweep the Rangers while Aggies are losing their god damned minds at the possibility of UT joining the SEC. Great weekend.

Rangers have lost 12 straight. At one point they went 99 innings without holding a lead.

Unless there’s a late top piece add, that Gallo trade is absolute robbery. It’ll get panned on the whole 3TO nonsense but an elite lefty bat was by far the biggest need.

Why? He’s not an elite, lefty bat. If he were, TEX wouldn’t have given up on him at the ripe old age of 27. This is a guy who twice hit 40 HRs, but in those seasons, his OPS only reached .810 and .869. That’s because he’s below average at generating contact. Yes, he can punish mistakes, but how much is that going to payoff should they reach the postseason?

I’d have been happier if they dealt a similar/better package to Minnesota for Byron Buxton.

Frankly, if they can’t deal Stanton, they need to deal Judge to get better defensively elsewhere (C, 1B, SS). Fucking team’s a mess dude. Joey Gallo isn’t the answer.

There's no answer including Buxton (who would fit given his righty bat and time spent injured). But a lefty bat that can fake CF and get on base was a pretty massive hole in the lineup, especially at that non-cost.

So…trading for a RF to play out of position in CF, who got hot in the first half of the season (so that his OBP looks passable) on a demonstrably lousy team is the answer? Because the players given up aren’t going to amount to much? Glenn Otto won’t be any good as a relief pitcher?

It’s fools gold.

I used Buxton as an example (injuries notwithstanding) of a taking the upside to find a complete player at a reduced cost. Gallo is an extreme example of a player who will accumulate stats vs inferior opponents (but not even hits, just home runs), and be outclassed by better teams.

This won’t end well.

In the Tigers 17-14 win yesterday, every position player who played in the game had at least 1 run, 1 hit and 1 RBI. Wonder how many similar games there have been in MLB history?

I don't see this (season) ending well either way, but it won't be because they acquired Gallo for depth prospects. Him and his passable (18th overall) OBP can't hurt when its replacing Brett Gardner.

(And don't worry too much about "Glenn Otto", we got Joely-Rod back in the trade.)

Joey Votto is on one of his surface of the sun runs. HRs in 5 straight games, two HRs in each of the last two games to boot - he is beyond locked in. Also, when asked two days ago in post-game why he was pointing to his name on his back as he crossed homeplate he said that was for David Bell (manager) who keeps calling him Roy Kent. Votto keeps telling Bell he's Jamie Tart. Last night - during another 2 HR game...

Which is kind of weird/funny because that song was (weirdly, IMO) the Nats little diddy during their W.S. run.

Saw that this was the 3rd time the Tigers have done it in their history. So it's not unheard of, but still damn rare.

I don't understand how the Padres continually have good enough prospects to win these presumed bidding wars. Assume they had to give up either Abrams or Gore here which would be steep.
