Ugh. Not happy about this one.
Corey Perry’s had a nice career, but he will never not be an unlikeable douchebag.

Anytime you can give up a 3rd for a talentless goon well past his prime you have to make that trade.

But we'll all be smiling when he settles Tom Wilson.

I love this Reaves trade.

The Pens won back to back Cups because they were the fastest, most-skilled team in the league. Then Tom Wilson hurt their feelings, so their GM changed direction and acquired Ryan Reaves and a bunch of other big, slow guys.

A few years later, the Rangers were building around all kinds of high-end talent. Then Tom Wilson hurt their feelings, etc., etc.

I'm pretty sure when Dryden Hunt for two years and $1.5MM total is the only clear positive move the Rangers have made its been a bad offseason.

Goodrow: Clearly too long and too much $ for a bottom 6 grinder with a top-liner's worth of goals in 331 career games
Nemeth: Fine on a one year deal, insane to go to three years for him to either play 3rd pair or watch
Buchnevich: Arguably the best key player traded that day, only one who didn't get a huge haul
McKegg: Whatever
Tinordi: Waste of money
Reaves: Fuck off

Other shit:
- Protected Rooney (who sucks) and Hajek (who sucks and has already been squeezed out of plans) rather than find a pre-draft trade
- Absolutely no reason they should have picked 15th in a soft draft when they're looking to make a big trade; just a waste of an overvalued asset where now the exact same thing (1st round pick) will be far more costly because 2022 is supposedly stacked
- Why is Georgiev still on the roster as teams quickly settle their G situations?

I swear if they give up someone bigger than one of the pre-debut defensemen in a trade where Buffalo is completely out of options, I'm going to ... post angrily again? I don't know. Just a fucking wreck.

Krejci leaving the Bruins to play in the Czech Republic. I thought a big reason Taylor Hall signed to stay with the Bruins was he really liked playing with Krejci.

Conditional picks and mid-tier prospects at this point. I’ll be pretty annoyed if/when Chytil or Kravtsov is still included.

I could be wrong, but Kukla is a fucking asswipe of the highest order. Pretty sure in the early days of hockey blogs he didn't pay his writers. Still, pretty disheartening actions by EK.

Kane obviously has a gambling problem but betting on NHL games seems like a bridge even the most degenerate gambler wouldn’t cross.

That Darnell Nurse contract is pretty steep. But the Seth Jones contract, and then Dougie Hamilton's, altered the market. This is the going rate for a top defenseman now, and Nurse is very, very good.

And like all contracts like this, it might not look so bad a few years from now, after similar contracts are handed out. (Or it might look worse, especially at the end. We'll see.)

I've been bullish on Edmonton's defense for a few years now. That's starting to change, with Klefbom's injury/possible retirement, losing Larsson, the Ethan Bear trade, the Duncan Keith trade, etc. Still waiting on Bouchard and Broberg, too. Extending Nurse was an absolute must.

The only conclusion I can draw here is that Shesterkin and Hart apparently have better agents than Samsonov.

Not sure about the other two, but Shesterkin's deal buys out two UFA seasons.

Yeah, goalies are always a crapshoot but unless something crazy happens that deal might look really, really cheap in two or three years.

Yeah, I'm good with it. I would have preferred a few more years since goalies tend to age gracefully but I guess its short enough that even if he looks Carter Hart bad next year, he'd still be tradeable to a team that thinks they can clean him up.

He probably didn't want to give up more UFA years (at least not without a higher AAV). All things considered, probably a win/win for the player and club.

So this spells the end of Georgiev in NY which lines up with the talk of him being in on any Eichel deal?

Thing is, two weeks ago we were sitting on a cap that would have allowed us to go higher than necessary short term to get those under market years further out. Like imagine if they were proactive with Fox before the Norris and insanity signings that just happened?

Oh yeah. He’s asked out and I’m sure NYR is willing to trade him as soon as someone makes a decent offer*.

NHL COVID-19 protocols: Teams can suspend unvaccinated players for missing time
The Athletic wrote:The NHL and the NHL Players' Association have finalized COVID-19 protocols for the 2021-22 season and will allow teams to suspend unvaccinated players who are "unable to participate in club activities," according to a copy of the protocols obtained by The Athletic.

The terms for suspension include situations where unvaccinated players cannot travel to or from an area because of local, provincial/state and/or federal regulations. Those players would "forfeit the equivalent of one day's pay for each day" they are unable to participate in club activities.

I was pondering exactly how things would unfold if a team/league wanted to stretch "conduct detrimental to the team" to not getting vaccinated and subsequently getting infected.
