For sure, but most all of the non-Gourde top 6 guys were all on pretty poisonous contracts. I'm wondering if they're going to regret going Geekie over Bean which was probably for F/D balance unless it was comped by Carolina.

Really hoping the Rangers don't play the role of the 2017 Panthers.

Im just getting more mad. Flames miss the playoffs, don't have a lot of depth, and somehow lost the best played in the expansion draft. This sums up being a Flames fan

No side deals! Then that is a absolutely terrible job by Francis. Thinks he's the smartest guy in the room I bet.

I’m going to dissent and say every GM was so terrified of a bad side deal there were no deals to make.

They were definitely trying to go young and cheap. Jury’s out on how that goes I guess. Taking Donskoi off Colorado and Giordano off Calgary hurts those two teams so nothing but good news for Vegas near as I can tell.

I bet the pass-throughs, especially on defense, make tonight’s analysis change drastically.

Not happy.... :(

Just the worst management. If you told me in 2019 that the Flames would lose both Brodie and Giordano for nothing, I'd call you crazy.

And I guess I'll ask this here since we, unfortunately, don't have any anthem-related threads - when/how did a dedicated anthem singer (more or less?) become the norm in the NHL? Because Canada? And how has the league not managed to ruin that yet?

I mean, how great is this?
In 1996, then New Jersey Devils GM Lou Lamoriello met Roxburgh on the streets of New York City on 2nd Avenue. He noticed that she was singing in a restaurant and watched for a while. Lamoriello was very impressed by her musical talent, so he asked Roxburgh if she could perform The Star-Spangled Banner before the Devils home games.

Amirante before Game 7 in ‘94 is the most iconic anthem no one has ever heard.

Frankly, before this year, I have no idea how the Panthers didn't get moved. They seemed to finally get their barn to at least 50% capacity (although who knows, given COVID restrictions). That team seems to be on the up, but it really hurts to put your arena in such a horrible location. It's very analogous to the Rays.
I haven't traveled to a lot of other NHL venues, but the Panthers site was one of the most random, depressing professional venues I've ever seen. Like.. Is it a mall? Is it on a reservation?

And the crowd was so not into it.

Say what you want about Buffalo as a franchise, that location is sweet.

So like 30 hours left before NYR either does or doesn't acquire Eichel and I still have no idea where I stand on him even before considering the prospect cost. That neck injury seems troubling as hell unless he's partially using it to escape.

Around the same time. They played God Saved the King on the NHL in 1918. Dedicated singer? Probably would depend on team? Roger Doucet was probably the first "celeb"

They started anthems for Olympic winners in Paris 1924.

I take solace in the fact that the Red Wings were able to keep the name of the player lost in the draft a secret the longest.

It's also hard to get upset about losing a defenseman (Dennis Cholowski) about whom the first comment is perpetually a variation of "needs to get better at playing defense".

Fwiw, the Sharks don’t have a dedicated anthem singer. The hold tryouts in the offseason for some of the dates and fill in the rest with local pseudo-celebrities (and when they made the playoffs - real celebrities).

Flyers trade Gostisbehere, a second-rounder and a seventh-rounder to the Coyotes for...absolutely nothing.

Kinda wonder why Seattle wasn't on that in the first place, although apparently there were "other teams" that asked for either a 1st or York so maybe they thought holding out would pay.

We're definitely only 1/2 way through this process, and VGK wasn't expected to do much at this point in their process, but it really seems like Francis has not done a great job.

You can trade players for cash I believe with a cap on the amount (maybe a million?), so maybe they got like $100 from the Yotes or something?

ETA: They were technically traded for "Future Considerations" which means a fourth-line grinder in the ECHL or a bag of pucks or something.

You can trade for nothing. Just to eat the contract. Isles did it last week.

The national hockey writers for the Athletic each gave the Red Wings an A for their part in the Alex Nedeljkovic trade and the 'Canes a C- and D+.

That seems good.
