Someone on twitter yesterday was posting the most 'amusing/disgusting' highlights from the 47(!) page indictment. Among them:

-Hunter wanted new 'hawaiian shorts', and his wife told him to buy them at a Golf Pro Shop so they could put on the expense report that they were 'golf balls for wounded warriors'

-Hunter wanted to expense a family vacation to Italy by setting up a visit to a Navy facility. When the Navy said they couldn't do it on the date Hunter wanted, he said 'Fuck the Navy'. Somehow, I think that won't go over so well in San Diego (which he represents).

-He took his mother out for dinner, and spend almost $600.

-He bought 30 (!!!) shots of tequila at a restaurant, and had it as a campaign expense.

Fun trivia from the Post:
Hunter was the second member of Congress to endorse Trump. He followed Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.) by just a few hours in February 2016. Collins was indicted two weeks ago on insider trading charges. He ended his reelection bid under pressure from Trump allies and GOP leaders who feared a messy distraction, even as he continues to proclaim his innocence.

I don't want to get too far ahead of the game, but if he somehow wins...this is a guy who could end up running for president in 2020. And before you scoff at that remember Obama was only a Senator for two years before running and winning. There's an advantage to not having much of a track record if you go by the last few elections.

There is absolutely a buzz about him and I'm seeing credible people starting to make this case. I think even with a narrow loss he has put himself in play.

There's a reason a guy like me is donating to Senate race in TX and it's not about Cruz, it's about Beto. The guy has "it."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/investig ... 10f5473445
An internal investigation by the university concluded that Paris Dennard, a surrogate during the campaign and now a member of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships, told a recent college graduate who worked for him that he wanted to have sex with her. He “pretended to unzip his pants in her presence, tried to get her to sit on his lap, and made masturbatory gestures,” according to a university report obtained by The Washington Post.

According to the 2014 report, Dennard did not dispute those claims but said he committed the acts jokingly. The investigation began after the woman and a second female employee told superiors Dennard’s actions went too far and had made them uncomfortable.
The Sybian wrote: Tue Aug 21, 2018 10:04 pm
Shirley wrote: Tue Aug 21, 2018 9:01 pm As I wrote above, I (blissfully) had no idea who Paris Dennard is. Phil Mudd either, for that matter. I think because of that, I was merely going off the video shown. It sounds like the rest of you are judging the exchange - fairly or not - by what you already knew of Dennard.

I still stand by my observation. The guy made a reasonable note about the economic value of having high security clearance and occasional access to top secret information. I never thought those guys profited off of the actual secret information - that would be a serious crime - but they very likely do profit off of the idea that they are privy to that information. And if someone is looking to them for consulting, their having access to secret information would certainly be a valuable asset, even if the actual secret information isn't directly shared.

That doesn't mean that Dennard isn't a tool, but it also doesn't excuse the behavior of Mudd in that interview.
Count yourself lucky for not knowing Dennard. I totally understand your observation, and setting aside my bias against Dennard, his point is a complete fallacy, and straight of the GOP talking points memo. I've heard the identical argument parrotted by numerous mouth pieces, and it's intentionally deceitful. High level retired CIA operatives are absolutely earning money off of their experience in the CIA, but I really don't think they are getting paid for their retained security clearance, but for their expertise and experience. They have no access to classified info other than what current government officials request they read. Mudd has every right to be pissed, because the President has committed an enormously blatant violation of the 1st Amendment, and did so in a belligerent fit of toddler rage, against the former CIA Director for having the audacity to criticize the Fuhrer. Trump is acting like a despotic dictator and threatening all who dare speak out against him. Add to it Dennard directly accusing Mudd and his peers of lacking integrity, and defending Brennen out of greed and wanting to cash in on their security clearance out of greed. Throw in the history of the two of them debating numerous times, and Dennard being a lying weasel attacking the integrity of retired CIA and FBI operatives, and yeah, he snapped.

I'm not attacking you at all here, my first instinct when I heard all of this was, "why does Brennen need to keep his security clearance?" After it was all explained (see my post above), I realized it's vital for security to keep retired high-level intel operatives clued in, and maintaining clearance to review classified docs when necessary.

An interesting angle I've seen, is that Trump is really trying to preempt incriminating testimony against him and his family. While it appears he is attacking those who criticize him, the real motive could be that he is attacking the credibility of those who can incriminate him, and prevent them from having access to their own notes when they witnessed Trump committing crimes. The argument is that Trump is taking security clearance from everyone who knows he fired Mueller to obstruct justice, so they can't testify to their contemporaneous notes. Interesting thought, but I think it's much more likely he is acting like a spoiled toddler and lashing out, not playing a brilliant long game.

Way back in the day, lunatics who had to get their message across would make photocopies of single-spaced or handwritten diatribes and stick them in mailboxes or tape them too lamp posts.

Now, any blithering idiot can be a "news commentator."

(From the above article)
SHROYER: No, you’re 100 percent accurate. John Kerry was in Antarctica, I think it was two years ago or less.

HAMAMOTO: I don’t know, was he checking out the hardware or the facility? There are all kinds of different rumors and speculation and I think they need to be checked out. Maybe John Kerry should be visited by some of our intelligence people. Maybe this would be a good use of the FBI instead of trying to indict President Trump on these crazy charges. But maybe the FBI can be interview John Kerry and ask him what he was doing down there and what he found out

If centrist Dems aren’t even willing to fight on Trump’s appointment of judicial nominees to lifetime positions, what exactly is their purpose? It’s getting harder and harder to view Schumer types as having any real role other than in restraining and suppressing the more progressive wing of the party in the name of “unity.”

It looks like the GOP will need to up their voter suppression efforts in FL and especially NC, since the Middle District of North Carolina ruled that the Congressional districts are, as the court put it, "...still gerrymandered as fuck."
