Detroit is cray. I want to see how visually evident that is next time I'm there.

That's pretty cool. It looks like there's a link to access the full map. I'm curious to see what Las Vegas looks like (though I have a pretty solid idea I could probably draw the map myself.)

I'm kind of surprised there isn't more African-Americans north of 8 Mile. In recent years it seemed the racial diving line was closer to 11 Mile/I-696 than 8 Mile.

So this is pretty cool. My neighborhood in Las Vegas is probably the most integrated area of town.

Check it out. (That area/dividing line to the south is Sun City -- them old, rich retirees ain't too fond of blacks or Mexicans.)

I live in the most racially integrated neighborhood in my town. We have a black family on my street.

That's a fantastic map. There are just so many observations that can be made at both macro and micro levels.

The "black belt" is interesting. I guess I've lived my whole life in there. I forget that there simply aren't any (well, very few) rural blacks in most of the country.

It's also incredible to see the extreme left-right divide in population density. It really looks like there's an inflection point nearly 50% across.

Fascinating.

In PA you can find all the prisons. Just look for all the green spots. It's nice that all those rural white folk can get jobs.

Splitting hairs here, maybe, but the title of the maps seems to equate "Lack of integration" with "Segregation".

Just because Asians don't have much representation in Montana doesn't mean they are segregated from it.

Two percent of Nevadans were born in Michigan. I would have almost guessed that were a little higher.

Good lord that's nuts.

Only Maryland and Colorado and Washington sound like they're full of well adjusted people. Although Michiganders are right - electricity is pretty cool.

But the people of the Carolinas will be sorely missed after the rapture.

Old Bay and marijuana...

CO is pretty reasonable, aside from Colorado Springs and some of the southern suburbs of Denver.

Cali and Nevada, where prices are low, have medical marijuana.

Nevada doesn't really. It is technically legal here, but there are literally no places to purchase it (though that should be changing very shortly).

(I'm assuming the relative low cost in NV might just be its proximity to California, the Mexican border and a general laissez faire attitude towards stuff like weed and prostitution here.

Ah. Weed is widely and openly available at hundreds of medical dispensaries all over any big city in Cali; didn't know if it was similar in Vegas or not.

Well, it should be shortly. I think the first one literally opens either the beginning of June or maybe July. It took our idiot legislators like three years to figure it out.

ETA: Irony is all of the work was probably for nothing. There's going to be a ballot question to just legalize it in 2016, which will likely pass.

You'd think that a state as wide open as Nevada would easily approve marijuana. But you do have a lot of Mormons, there, so I don't know that it's a slam dunk, eh?

Yeah it should pass easily. Our Republicans are typically of a more libertarian bent so I don't expect much opposition.

Why is weed so cheap in Michigan? It's not legal, medical marijauna doesn't seem to be widely available, and it's surrounded by high-cost states. Yet an ounce is cheaper than even in Florida, the state of the legendary square tuna washing up on the beaches.
