Apparently leaving Netflix next month if you haven't watched it yet...

REALLY good show starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. I hadn't heard anything about this show and it just popped up and now I'm hooked. 5 episodes in, having started on Friday.

Blew through Ozark in 3 days. Holy fuck, this show is amazing. So many twists and turns, and almost every character should be despised, and yet you kind of understand them, and maybe even like them at times. Except Jason Bateman, you can't help but love Bateman in everything, even when he is doing despicable things. This is just so opposite of what you expect from a Jason Bateman show, and he directed 4 of the episodes. I really hope they have a second season, but in another way, it was just such a beautifully horrific show, it might be better left unsullied.

One downside, Ruth, the semi-evil 19 year old trailer trash girl looks a lot like a girl on my soccer team.

I don't know if it's on Netflix, but if you want a dark ass Bateman movie/performance, stop what you're doing and go watch Bad Words. Awesome movie.

Forgot about that movie, yeah, I loved it. Ozark is way darker and more disturbing, though.

I'm 8 episodes into Season 2, and loving it. Every episode is done in a completely different voice/tone/whatever, and it is so cool. The episode that follows random characters was amazing. In 10 minutes, I got so engaged in the Doorman's day, and the African guys. I never lived in a building with Doormen, but spend a lot of time in friends' buildings with doormen. It always made me feel uncomfortable how much these guys knew about their lives, and would go into their apartments to do things. I never felt comfortable with the line of talking to the guys vs. not bothering them, and man this nailed it for me, seeing it from the Doorman's perspective. Same with the African guys. I always wonder what the cab driver's life is like, and who they are talking to on the phone. These guys have 12 hour shifts, who is able to stay on the phone with them all day? And when they followed the deaf girl, and there was absolutely no sound, it made me so uncomfortable watching, and made it real to see what life is like with no sound. So cool.

And yes, totally in love with Francesca. Whenever she looks into the camera and smiles, damn, she has perfected the look. The episode where he goes on all the dates hit home, too. That was totally the NY dating experience. And the Thanksgiving episode was soooo good.

I love how one episode is 19 minutes, the next 36. I love that he took advantage of the freedom to do whatever he wants. Why be confined by time? Tell the story you want, if it's long or short, fuck it, it's Netflix, it doesn't matter.

Yep. It's so damn great. I'm kind of surprised that he won best actor last night, as his acting isn't usually what gets the most credit on that show. That long cut at the end of the episode after dropping Francesca, set to the cover of the David Gray song is so great. As is Bobby Canavale's whole role (is he slimy?, is he not?, is he going to go after Francesca?). The Thanksgiving episode, the religion episode...

I ran across it on Netflix over the holidays down at the ‘rents house. I like it.

Points for accidentally activating captions too. Eliminated the “what’d he say?” moments from the experience, and they even reveal the soundtrack artist/song title for you. Cuz I guess my ears aint that learn’d.

I love the feature on Amazon Prime, where if you move your cursor on the screen, a link to all the actors in the scene and music pop up on the side. I'm turning into my parents, constantly thinking, "hey, isn't that the guy from...", so this is way easier than looking it up on my phone.

My daughter "accidentally" signed up for Amazon Prime. So, now I have to figure out how to get it onto our tv. We watch Netflix via the Wii, so I assume this can be done the same way?

CC has saved a number of shows for us... It's funny... It usually takes us 2 or 3 episodes where strong accents are involved and then we realized we've trained our ears enough to turn them off. I'm blanking on the Norwegian show... Fortitude, that's the one. We had to go back and re-watch almost an entire episode because we had no idea what anyone was saying.

Oh, wanted to recommend Icarus on Netflix... Documentary that starts off as a story on doping in cycling and morphs into a completely different and mindblowing caper about the Russian doping scandal. Really well done.

=-=-=-=-=

Also started Mud Bound last night... Two episodes in and wondering how deep it's going to go. As it stands, I'm shocked I've never heard this story before. As it stands, dude that was being moved out of the Chem. Warfare program at Ft. Detrick gets drugged (LSD) by the CIA at a cabin at Deep Creek Lake and later in the week is up in NYC and "falls" out of the 10th floor window of his hotel. 20+ years later and the story gets out and higher level cover up kicks in.

Cheney and Rumsfeld are involved, ffs. Story is wild.

The guy who made this film was on Rogan's podcast. Fascinating episode. I immediately bookmarked Icarus, but haven't gotten to it yet.

I thought it has promise, but was really slow in some parts (mostly when they weren't working with the serial killers). Probably a victim of being done on a streaming service, which isn't unusual. Could have been a lot tighter. But I'm interested in seeing where they go with it. The first couple of episodes were outstanding and then it kind of fizzled out a bit.

Me too. Based on Bernard Cornwell’s series of Viking books. I read them all and really enjoyed them. Depicts historically factual events, and builds a historical fiction story around them.

Ok, did a little catching up.

I dunno man. I've been pretty consistent that one person accusing someone shouldn't be enough to ruin someone's career. That situation seems REALLY ambiguous.

Not excusing him or dismissing her outright, but he's giving her oral and then she's like "nah" and... I she says he was shitty about her not wanting to go further? I guess it's an important part of the ongoing discussion/movement to be really clear on consent, but holy wow that would throw a lot of men for a loop.
