Randomly came across this on YouTube. Some of Mike Tyson's early fights. Damn was he impressive. My favorites are Michael Johnson (the third one, I think) and Marvis Frazier (son of Joe Frazier).

I so miss Tyson fight nights. Even into the late 90s, I loved those nights.

As impressive as he was... Wow. I forgot just how bad some of his opponents were. I don't know boxing to the extent of being super knowledgeable, but Geez Louise... Those guys had their hands down, walking right into a lot of those KO's. I'm not talking about Tyson counters, I'm talking about walking right into punches with their hands down near their waist. WTF?

Listening to Slate's Hang Up and Listen they mentioned something about it being a "legal" helmet to helmet hit. Maybe because his head stayed up.

Yeah, it was legal because he did not lead with the crown of his helmet, popularly known in the old days as "spearing."

Good point. But I also would be suprised if they levied that on a guy who doesn't tackle for a living unless it was a clear cut launch or spearing.

That's how I imagine it would look like if TT started throwing haymakers in the Texans parking lot.

I have never seen Kevin Ware's leg snap, and I will now not go find anything of Anderson Silva's leg snapping

Not nearly as graphic as the bone didn't exit the skin, but still VERY uncomfortable to watch.

2014 NFHS rule change. Rule 5-3-5 stipulates that a body check that targets a player in a defenseless position is illegal and specifies a minimum two- to three-minute non releasable penalty for this violation.
At the federation level big hits are being taken out of the game. If someone throws one of those widow-maker type passes across the middle on a clear, the defense can not knock the snot off of them. Lacrosse is fighting the concussion issue and focused on lacrosse being a contact sport but not a collision sport.

Yeah, that wouldn't have been a penalty before... But I think it's good thing. Lacrosse and Hockey are very similar in that guys shouldn't be able to take long runs at opposing players like that. (Think Charging, hockey folks.)
I find indoor lacrosse fights too staged compared to hockey. Flat footed, way too much equipment taking off and clearing space.....feels too staged...but nice shot.
