If it has Arnold Schwarzenegger, it's not a military commercial.

In this ad, consumers are given a choice between getting free sushi from an ultra-expensive sushi restaurant, and from a discount sushi chain. Oddly, they choose the cheap sushi...

Θ We've probably talked before about USFL footage showing up in commercials and tv shows. If you see a generic football game, it's probably from the USFL because the footage is cheap. (The CFL used to be more common. For instance, the Thanksgiving scene in 'Brokeback Mountain' used footage of an Edmonton/Montreal game from the 1970s.)

And so, the newish non-Flo Progressive commercial with the two guys in the man cave uses Houston Gamblers footage. Look for it. You can see Jim Kelly throw a touchdown pass.

Θ Two national commercials are currently using Harry Nilsson songs. Another is using ELO. If the trend is to bring back great, semi-forgotten '70s pop, then I am fully on board.

I've also noticed the prevalence of 70s music in recent commercials. You'd think that 58+ was their desired demographic, but it isn't just drug and adult diaper advertisements!

Hell, Motorhead is in a car commercial. I have no idea what that means.

Since it's a bank commercial, they should've used Gouge Away instead of Here Comes Your Man.

I find it interesting and clever that Heineken's latest commercial with Jackie Stewart revolves around him refusing their product.

My favorite commercial at the moment: The PC Matic Band. This song rocks as hard as a song about anti-virus software could possibly rock.

Worth noting that the owner of the company plays guitar but doesn't sing. So, much like Oasis, the creative force isn't center stage.

Also, the bassist plays a Rickenbacker, so they must be successful if he's able to afford that.

Wait. That's a national ad??

Holy shit. I saw this last night and my jaw dropped.

Good thing they subtitled it. And the song isn't catchy, even in a Cars for Kids king of annoying ear worm way.
