A couple (or four) of those Japanese girls are damn fine.

Interesting. That's not even the Japanese team that's going to Sochi. I'm pretty sure they got selected on their looks.

But you'd still Satsuki her Fujisawa, right?

As for Sochi, Ayumi Ogasawara (the curler who qualified) was named Japan's flag-bearer a little while ago.

Wishing I PVRd that. Had you seen live curling before, Brian?

The "singles" and whatnot going on today isn't really curling any more than a driving range is golf.

Looks like a great venue too. All the fans are up close and curling is great with the players mic'd up.

Curling live is fantastic and I encourage all to see it if you get a chance. Also great to finally meet a fellow Swamper. We had a couple older ladies from Saskatchewan proudly wearing Roughrider gear sitting in front of us giving us some tips on the finer strategy of the game. They also told us a cute anecdote: They attended an autograph session the night before and were waiting to talk to Jeff Stoughton from Winnipeg. Jeff loudly proclaimed he wasn't signing anything for anyone wearing green. The ladies still waited their turn and after some good natured cajoling he finally relented. He signed "Your favorite Blue Bomber fan".

They just mentioned that they're kicking the American teams out of the Continental Cup.

It'll be Canada vs Europe in odd years and Canada vs World in even years. I guess the US becomes part of the World team? Maybe?

Continental Cup is in Calgary next year at Canada Olympic Park which is 5 minutes from my house.

wow, both Howard and Martin fail to qualify for the Brier.

Hey Scottie, think Martin should have just drawn in to force an extra end or go for that circus shot for the win?

The 2015 Continental Cup was in Calgary recently. The event was pretty entertaining but most importantly, TSN has a new colour commentator and she looks as stunning as ever.

The Brier this week in Calgary has been amazing with a stacked field. It's the start of a new era as for the first time in forever, there is no Martin, Howard or Stoughton.

And they're putting video of full games on youtube. The round-robin ends tomorrow morning.

I've hand picked a few games for your viewing pleasure.

Draw 1: Yukon (Smallwood) v PEI (Casey) (qualifier to get into the field)

Draw 4: Northern Ontario (Jacobs) v Cotter (BC)

Draw 10: Alberta (Koe) vs Canada (Morris)

Draw 12: Newfoundland (Gushue) vs Alberta (Koe)

Makes sense. I'm sure the Canadian travelers would rather go there than go to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

Weren't any (that I saw) for the Continental Cup two years ago. That tournament will be here again in 2016 as well.

I'm pretty sure the enemy of good curling ice is humidity, so I would think they should do ok. I would be more worried about blood-alcohol level testing...

That's a good question. I don't remember if they did for the Continental Cup or not. It would be legal, the big question would be if they felt they could make enough of a handle to make it worth it. If they do, it would almost certainly be only at The Orleans (the casino/arena where the tournament is).

Saw pictures of the teams when I was getting tickets for Rams Fanny and I (and our respective better halves) for the Continental Cup this weekend and I'm all about the Scottish ladies team

Not sure how they curl (they're 0-0-2 after the first two matches, but they can throw stones at me.

Canada (Simmonds)
BC (Cotter)
Alberta (K. Koe)
Saskatchewan (Laycock)
Manitoba (McEwan)
N. Ontario (Jacobs)
Ontario (Howard)
Quebec (Menard)
New Brunswick (Kennedy)
PEI (Casey)
Newfoundland (Gushue)
NW Territories (J. Koe) vs Nova Scotia (Murphy) - qualifer!

Watching the Curling World Cup tonight, and the match is China vs. USA in mixed doubles. The Chinese dude shouted “Fuck!” In perfect English after one of their shots was less than ideal. Kinda funny for the commentators to apologize for hearing a Chinese dude drop an F bomb on live TV.

Curling is back! The Scotties, Brier and Men's Worlds will all be held in the Calgary bubble, starting tonight!
Pruitt, TSN is going to be busy the next month or so. And also on ESPN3!

It sounds crazy to say, but curling is kinda fun to watch.

I curled like a half dozen times, and would love to do it again. It's a riot.

Degen - want to make a fun wager? Ontario vs. Alberta? Sounds like there's a pool here...

Are you sure you want to take Ontario? Homan's 7 months pregnant.

What makes curling such a great tv sport is the coverage. You see everything, you hear everything. And it's slow enough you can predict what will happen next. There's no spygate in curling. Both teams wear microphones and discuss strategy right in front of each other. TSN does a great job.

Here is draw 1. The Intro is excellent.
