Well, spirits don't turn to vinegar like wine, but it has probably oxidized pretty severely, and that will affect taste. I say try it out!

A lady I work with was talking about this. She and her boyfriend go to St. Augustine every year, and they were very excited that the Bourbon would finally be out this year. I guess it had to age longer than their other spirits. Can they really call it bourbon if it isn't made in KY?

Yes you can call it bourbon. That's an old myth. THe main thing with bourbon is filtered water and new barrels.

Does it have to be just corn, or >50% corn as well?

Yeah. Maybe that too. More than 50 corn I think.

Tastes like... well liquor. It'll do the job and I don't think I'll get any sicker than the newly bottled stuff.

A couple of years ago, my brother in law had 2 or 3 sips of a whisky sour made with powdered sour mix from sometime in the 70s. There's a lot of "good" stuff in the in-laws basement bar.

Rye isn't bourbon.

It's awesome but not bourbon.

BSB - Brown Sugar Bourbon - Is pretty dang tasty for what might be otherwise slightly above average swill.

Heaven Hill six-year is a pretty good bourbon for the price (I paid $14 for a fifth).

It’s solid. Also one you can get for a decent price in Florida. They inflate prices on name brands. But my taste buds don’t discriminate. Sorry we missed each other in cincy today.

That’s weird. Bourbon pretty sweet on its own. Frightens me.

Evan Williams green if you can get it also solid. Not pappy but good value. Which is all I care about.

Blanton is my top shelf. Slightly sweet but let it sit in a glass with a few cubes and you’re golden.

A friend of mine won a bourbon bottle lottery last week and walked away with a bottle of 15-year-old Pappy. He now has a bottle of every Pappy except the 23-year (which he had once, but was consumed by his in-laws while they were house sitting for him; the in-laws described it as “pretty good”).

The CEO I worked for never drank bourbon. Then he tried it once (with me and some other guys), decided he liked it and stared drinking top shelf stuff. Then he started buying Pappy Van Winkle (it’s good to have CEO money and contacts). He kept tellinig me we were going to knock back his Pappy together some time.

Then the company got acquired, we both moved on, and I haven’t seen him since.

That’s what I think of when somebody mentions Pappy.
