How the fuck can you order a new laptop and not open it for 2+ years?
Man, I can see myself doing that, especially if it's something ordered by the office. I will keep using old computer stuff until it becomes absolutely unworkable.

It was not until Covid and the advent of Zoom calling that I realized that my laptop - which was a hand-me-down from my firm - didn't even have a camera. And I did not replace that laptop until about three weeks ago.
I kept ignoring messages from IT to submit a ticket to get a new laptop. My old one was great, didn't feel compelled to get a new one and have to transfer all my files etc... Once I got the new one, I realized how stupid I was. New one was much smaller and a third of the weight. And while it says Bang & Olufsen, I think the speakers were better on the old one. And I hate to admit it, but I do miss the built in DVD player when I'm traveling. Well, when I used to travel. Now IT is insisting on sending me two monitors, a docking station, keyboard and mouse. I prefer keeping my desk clear and working on the laptop directly.

I view at 85% size and freeze panes. Its not the screen doing the work, bro.

Team AB here. Every time I have to WFH on laptop, it's much worse than being at my 3 screen office set up.

I couldn't fathom not having two screens at least. With the copying and pasting I do and the number of browser tabs open, it's a necessity.

Same. I'm gonna be working directly on my laptop for at least the next five weeks (1.5 from hotels, 2.5 at mother-in-law and 1 in Mexico until I can acquire a cheap monitor to add to my setup) and I'm already dreading every minute of it.

I'm sure I'd love a multi-screen setup if I started using it but its just something I never started so I don't need it. I've gone from small desk to couch to dining room table as my workspace so its just not feasible.

At the beginning of COVID my wife's company gave her some $ for office equipment. She bought a standing desk and gifted me the 27 inch curved monitor. Getting a tan off the thing but it is AMAZING. I spreadsheet and document review like a boss.

I had two 27s at work. Using two at home would require upgrading my old home PC which I just never felt like doing since I'm pretty much just using it as a terminal. I bought a 27 for home just before the shit hit the fan in March. I probably would have gone bigger had I known, but I've gotten used to it.

Did finally buy new speakers this week after 8 months or whatever of the current ones occasionally cutting out (or worse one of them cutting out and me not realizing it until a song I'm really familiar with comes on and I notice 1/2 the track is missing) and having to be touched just right to turn back on until the next time I bump the desk.

Damn. I'm working on a 14" laptop screen. I've never used a dual screen, so I don't feel like I'm missing out. I rarely use spreadsheets, and when I do, it's extremely limited and basically for tracking my work accomplishments for annual reviews and bonus requirements. Mostly doing legal research, writing reports and responding to emails, so no need for a larger screen or dual screens. I guess there are times where I have to flip between windows, but it's not often enough to crowd my desk with a second monitor (or a first, for that matter).

Got something similar to this. It's the shit. Can just raise/lower it to sit/stand rather than having an expensive desk do it.

So you've taken one expensive piece of equipment and beat the system by buying two or three smaller less expensive pieces of equipment.

Guilty AF. Wife and I each have separate offices on separate floors of the house with three screens each in command center format...plus three extra monitors in the basement just begging to be used.

...and we still have two spare bedrooms. Space is King.

Yeah, I have an office with two computers and three monitors (plus the laptop screen). My wife has her own office, also with a laptop and separate monitor.

She was one of those people who insisted for years that she didn't need an extra monitor. Then, I set one up for her and now she can't live without it. Anyone claiming they're cool with working with just their laptop screen simply hasn't ever worked with a multi-monitor setup. You can't go back.
