Didier Drogba and the Ivorian civil war

Football Rebels is a 5-part series, presented by Eric Cantona, focusing on "football heroes whose social conscience led them to challenge unjust regimes, join opposition movements and lead the fight for democracy and human rights".

Y'know those (that?) shirts that Metheny wears all the time, right. The black/white stripe French shirt. I call them Russian submarine shirts. Anyway, I like them. They look really comfortable. Plenty of room for moving and grooving, which is why Metheny wears 'em. Well, that and it's his style. Possibly fleece. Soft fabric. Loose. Told my wife that I like them and wanted to pick one up somewhere, somehow. I wish I could communicate the look she gave me because she pretty much thinks those are the ugliest things in the history of fashion; didn't actually say anything but rather offered up a rather striking furrowed glare. So it goes. My line of thinking is that if I can wear an Oakland A's jersey or a Chicoutimi Sagueneens jersey, why couldn't I wear a Pat Metheny jersey? As it were. As it wore. Right? Makes sense enough. She doesn't cotton to the idea. Not at all.

Granted I'd feel pretty weird wearing the Metheny garb while playing, say, the Guild acoustic. Actually, I'd probably take my guitars out behind the garage and burn them if that ever happened. But for kicking around the hut? C'mon. Suave, those. Stylish. Inspired. Cold Warish. Jazz scalable.

Perhaps you can slide one in to the wardrobe if you create some sweet logo and add a Metheny "1" on the back. Tell her it's a old Lee's Summit Jazz Cats jersey.

Death Star destruction was an inside job. Eerie. I'm not a conspiracy theory guy, but these "coincidences" are too much. And you just know Dick Cheney is somehow behind all of this.

Here's what I've learned with the youtube tag Syb...
1) can't use https (secure), so delete the s if it's there
2) can't use the shortened youtu.be urls
3) have to post the youtube url with 'watch' in it

I probably should have posted the instructions in this thread in the first place. But I was using the announcement thread to give everyone a heads up on progress and developments.

Anyway . . . RTFM:

We used to do sleeping bag boxing. Boxing with sleeping bags pulled down over your heads down to your feet. When we were younger, we did did it in a hallway, but when we were older, we used bungee cords to rope off aring in a basement. The bags doubled to limit your punch strength and soften blows. It was so fun. And amazing how poorly you perceive where your opponent is, and where you are in the ring. Watching a fight was always hilarious, too. As we got into Jr. High and high school, though, noses started to break and concussions became the norm, so the fights ended.

Kid that killed three kids in a high school shooting rips off his shirt to reveal "KILLER" painted on his t-shirt, then flips off the parents telling that the hand that killed their kids now masturbates to the memory of it. Doesn't come off nearly as bad-ass as it sounds...

And the asshole that killed their kids will soon be torn apart by giant Hells Angels members and other assorted characters in a maximum security prison. I'm sure the tough guy facade will serve him well in the shower room as he is out sized by a good 40 pounds the second smallest guy in is block.

Pretty cool.

So what did that guy do to his guitar to make it play like that? He's not strumming anything and he doesn't appear to be hitting the strings hard at all. It's almost like a keyboard.

And Scottie, is there a way to make the embedded videos a little bigger?

I believe so. Right now it is set at: width="425" height="344"

What dimensions did you have in mind? (ETA: They'll have to be in keeping with a YouTube standard so the dimensions don't distort the video)

ETAA: 640 x 360 maybe?

Anyone else have a similar observation to Dave, about the video dimensions?

I do notice that it's smaller, but I figured it was a product of keeping bandwidth down or something.

640 x 360 is standard Youtubia video, so that might be better and make it all seamless.

It was really just a matter of getting the code correct; to be able to embed a video, which phpBB3 was not meant to do, intentionally so. The fixes I've had to re-code have been work-arounds because phpBB3, rightfully so, wanted to meet industry standards for HTML5, XML and PHP standards as of a few months ago; that is to say, any markup that became standard since the last time you saw The Swamp in phpBB. Remember, we couldn't embed videos in the old phpBB Swamp. And a few of the things we took for granted in vBulletin, those so-called new features, were not there anymore in the original phpBB or the new phpBB landscape. So they had to be fashioned. I hope I have restored that which was missing and created, or re-created, that which we've come to know. And frankly, I've enjoyed getting phpBB3 to do tricks it didn't know it could do.

Embedding video? No, that's not part of the phpBB3 design. The way they wrote it, it didn't conform. Yet everyone on The Swamp has come to know embedded video as a given. That bothered me. I wanted it as much as all of us wanted it. So I hacked a pile of server-residing configuration files to make it work. And then I didn't revisit the code once I saw it worked because, well, there is so much else remaining to look at and to repair. The dimensions seemed less of an issue than the ability to simply post a YouTube clip.

But since I'm at it . . . I'll revisit it.

In fact, I'll alter it. Right now.

Another test, this one HD 720p, Metheny, Hancock:

A High Def Buddy Guy that stretches the dimensions of my code and our walls and lets me watch what happens on the server end. If this works, anything will work (this is bootleg video intentionally selected for the distorted bitrate and EQ beyond allotted pushes. Over is equal to BW waste and, again, don't get married to this one. It does make for a solid specimen. Yeah. It is not meant for enjoyment as much as a test case. Granted, dude rocks. That doesn't really matter. What matters is the measure. Yes, I'm looking at a server graph that resembles a zebra's heartbeat. On we go. Yet. Dig the Orioles kit:
