Most of you probably already know this, but it's worth noting that Edwin Edwards had a big effect on the San Francisco 49ers, albeit inadvertently. His acceptance of bribes from 49er owner Eddie DeBartolo caused the latter to lose control of the team to his sister, brother-in-law, and later, his nephew, Jed York, the current leader of the ownership group.

Jerry Holt

You won’t find an article about him, but he was a good, and kind man. Jerry worked in one of my labs, and was kind and reliable. He had heart surgery last year, and last month had some difficulty. They put him on some blood thinner to ease it for his heart, and then he had an aneurism and they couldn’t get it to stop. I spoke with him frequently, and talked with him a couple of days before his health turned rapidly. I feel awful for Jerry, because he was planning his retirement and never got there. He never got to rest, and I hate it for him. He suffered what is honestly one of my greatest fears. He loved his job, and did a good job at it. But the poor guy deserved the right to spend some time doing whatever he wanted.

I don’t care about Kansas (the band or the state), but I know their lead singer was named Steve Walsh (not the QB of the same name). I know this because a girl across the hallway from me in my college dorm was related to him and mentioned this factoid to anybody who would listen.

All of his brothers were rabbis. I went to a wedding in NY where one of his brothers officiated.

I wonder if the stereotypes of Jews came directly from Jackie Mason, or if he hammed it up as part of an act. My grandfather had a bit of a similar accent and cadence. Maybe it's from speaking Yiddish as a primary language as a child.

I feel like Billy Crystal is the "modern" day version. Just the continuation as movies played a bigger role.

Lasers are great boats. Super fun, but hard to sail 'right/fast'.

Most kids these days learn to sail in Opti's, which are basically a bathtub with a sail.

So a friend of mine (living in SC posted on my FB wall just a little while ago;

I was about to go to see them in a few hours sans Dusty because he was having an issue with a bruised hip and went home to rest a few days ago, but the heart attack was out of the blue. The guitar tech can play rather well so he has been filling in. I went to dinner with their Audio Engineer last night and as of then he was fully expected to come back soon.

The band is fucking devastated. So sad.

Can still remember the first time I was left at home for a night by myself and I stayed up playing video games and watching TV and being enthralled by infomercials. A half-hour commercial, what a world! Popeil and Mike Levy (the guy in the sweater, who I just had to google to figure out his name) were the best!

Remember reading about him a bunch. Basically found a book that described his process for inventing products. The story of him getting the rotisserie just right was fascinating (number of rotations per minute, angle of glass front, etc..was just amazing). That and his story about hair in a can is great.
