And inspire a Jethro Tull song!

Blew my mind when I read about Michael Collins in college and made the connection to the song, then really listened to the lyrics in the refrain:

I'm with you L.E.M [Lunar Excursion Module]
Though it's a shame that it had to be you
The mother ship
Is just a blip from your trip made for two
I'm with you boys
So please employ just a little extra care
It's on my mind
I'm left behind when I should have been there
Walking with you
An honest to God cult of personality - formed around a failed steak salesman.

Al Schmitt, 23-time Grammy winner
Over Schmitt’s impressive career, he won Grammy Awards for engineering on 10 occasions. The first was for 1962’s Hatari! by Henry Mancini, and he landed more with George Benson, Toto, Steely Dan, Ray Charles and Quincy Jones.

At 19, in his first job as an apprentice at Apex Recording Studios, Schmitt unexpectedly had to record Duke Ellington and his Orchestra.

He relocated to Los Angeles in the late 50s, and had his next run of success as the staff engineer at RCA in Hollywood, engineering records for Sam Cooke, and even for Elvis Presley.

After RCA, Schmitt’s career as a freelance producer exploded, producing records for Jackson Browne, Neil Young and engineering the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Madonna and Michael Jackson.

Damn.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Moonstruck is a fantastic movie. And Steel Magnolias is a decent enough “take one for the team” movie.

ETA: I’m selling it short. Steel Magnolias is a great movie too.

Sally Field should have won an oscar for that movie. And she wasn't even nominated.

Not nearly relevant enough to create an entire thread about though. I’ll pay, we are a society with rules.

I'm on bfj's side here.

First Jessica Walter, now Charles Grodin... we seem to be developing a real fetish for character actors here.
