Former Knicks announcer John Andriese.

(I just saw his birthday is my birthday, he was born in '38 and died at age 78. If I die within 5 months, I'll die at age 38 after being born in '78. Spoooooooky.)

The great James Cotton.

One of the first blues shows I ever saw - underage drinker at Albert's Hall in Toronto, and he made me a convert somewhere in the middle of the first set.

Jimmy Breslin

A great newspaperman, a great character and he wrote a number of really good novels too.

Seemed like a life well lived, and at least he made it to one last St. Patrick's Day.

Good summary, Pruitt. Jimmy Breslin seemed like a guy you'd like to have a beer with. I read The Gang that Couldn't Shoot Straight years ago and enjoyed his writing style.

Alan Colmes of Hannity and Colmes died last month. I didn't see it mentioned here. Was he the only liberal on Fox News?

They also have the fat drunkard in suspenders. Colmes was there to play the "Liberal" weakling for Hannity to trounce in arguments.

Chuck Barris

As a kid, I was a game show addict, and The Gong Show was for a couple of years a staple of the lives of my goofball friends and myself.

A TV innovator for better or worse, and his book Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is worth checking out.

We're all over J. Geils in the old guy music thread. That linked obit is horrible. The writer thought he was a vocalist and called them an 80s band, even though their first album was in 1970. Sheesh.

They were jamming since '64, and the band wasn't finished forming until '70.

Jonathan Demme, movie director

Probably most known for "Silence of the Lambs", but also did "Stop Making Sense", "Melvin and Howard", and "Philadelphia". And as a big fan of the band The Feelies, had them play at Melanie Griffith's high school reunion in "Something Wild".

Christopher Boykin. I am not a big MTV watcher. However, I have been just impressed with the success of Rob Dyrdek. He is just talented and seems like a generally good, fun loving person. The few times I saw Big Black on TV, it was always this fun happy persona and a great pairing.
