Charlie Daniels recently surfaced because another country artist invited him to join Parler, which is a newly-popular social media app for right-wing dipshits who have been kicked off other outlets. Another person snagged the name/account and had some fun for a while.

Good Facebook post from a friend who writes for the Houston Chronicle:
I will not use names here. I'd just like to say that an Italian composer who made incredible music that soundtracked wonderful cinematic art built upon the fabricated myth of the American West (in addition to much other wonderful work) died today. Also dead is a top-tier session musician, whose own body of work didn't resonate with me personally, though it did resonate for many others.
I'll just say this: I stood on a rooftop in Brooklyn and saw the second WTC tower fall, killing a half dozen firemen on my block who always said hello when I walked to the subway, and who always tended to kids with minor injuries on the block. And who bravely served their community.
So I have no affinity for anybody who from hundreds of miles away suggested I was a "pantywaist" (his sweetly antiquated term) for questioning why that tragedy didn't justify a war that has come with a horrific cost for a nation I care about as much as he did.
We lost a great composer, and a great session musician. One reminded me of how small the world can be if we look outward. One reminded me of how small a person can be if we look inward. Good night to one.

God damn, that is beautiful.

As for NHA, I'll vouch for him being a real person. I don't know why, but I made him my pet project. He would actually engage in private conversation, listen to my point of view, read article I sent him... and then decide that in the face of overwhelming facts, he would stick with his gut that things that actually benefited him and his small business were bad because his brainwashing told him Socialism is bad. My breaking point was discussing Obama's oppressive 36% top tax rate. NHA finally acknowledged that the top tax rate was over 90% in the 1950's, that it actually led to business expansion because the wealthiest business owners reinvested profits into their businesses rather than cashing out, creating more jobs, but in the end, despite the historically low top Federal tax rate, Obama was an oppressive tyrant hell bent on destroying small businesses through unprecedented tax rates. That, and he refused to stop citing World News Daily, despite acknowledging that they were blatantly lying to him. Again, he actually read articles presenting facts that disproved WND, he admitted WND was wrong, yet he would still throw new WND lies at me as proof that Obama was trying to destroy 'Murica.

The OG teacher that raped her student.

ETA: The CNN tweet was removed because it said "had an affair" instead of "rape."

She was the catalyst for me realizing that Bill Maher was full of shit. I remember he was saying after it happened that the kid would now be the coolest guy in class, when I shouted at the tv "he was fucking twelve! That's not an affair. That's fucking brainwashing!"

And side tangent, it's funny to me when the right are all like "yeah, what do you libs think when Bill Maher does it?", and the vast majority of us are like "what do you mean? We think he's an asshole too."

Yeesh. And Kennedy (yes, former MTV VeeJay and current Fox News Libertarian) is a voice of reason here.

Heh, Kennedy WAS a voice of reason in that clip. Crazy. I think it was pretty clear Maher was trying to be controversial and didn't actually believe what he was saying. On HBO, he can say what he believes, but back in the ABC days, before he was cemented in his role, he tried to be edgy and controversial. I used to watch his HBO show. I like the show. I think he is a pompous ass, and I think he goes too far in a lot of his beliefs, but it's usually an entertaining discussion, and he usually brings on guests with differing opinions and lets them speak, which there isn't nearly enough of on TV.

Yeah, I'd argue the opposite of that last point. Maher brings people on for ratings under the guise of inclusive debate or "letting them make themselves look stupid on (my show)". Its harmful.

She might deserve her own thread. It's not looking good for Naya Rivera. If the worst that happens, that'd be the third member of the Glee cast to have died.

Jack Charlton. Led Ireland to qualify for Euro 88, Quarterfinals of World Cup 90 and 2nd round in World Cup 94.

I'll always remember him losing it completely in '94 when trying to get John Aldridge on as a sub and the official stopping it, in Orlando I think

Ireland is my second follow, going back to the 80s. I actually got to see the team play Malta in Dublin that clinched their spot for Italy WC in 1989. The entire country was in love with that team, and Charlton was insanely popular. Very cool experience.

The Man in the Yellow Hat really exists nowhere in the firmament of international football and has no right to interfere in such an officious way
For some reason, he is holding the substitution request that goes to the 4th official.

Lou Henson died today, longtime basketball coach at Illinois, and New Mexico State before that.

That Flyin' Illini team was bad ass.

(The coach that took us to the Sweet 16 was a grad asst during that era and several of his rosters seemed shaped by their super-athletic interchangeable parts. Downside being you can't draw quite the same level of talent in the A-10 so you mostly get a lot kids who are all around 6'6.)

My wife's grandfather, who was essentially her father and my surrogate grandfather looked just like Wilford Brimley. He no joke got asked if he was him a couple of times that I saw. He would have 89 this year, so I'll drink a beer in both their honors tonight.
