What are your thoughts on the whole album? I've listened to it through three times or so. Strong effort.
Picking it up at my FLRS this afternoon. I've only listened to 2 tracks (Hope the High Road and Cumberland Gap). Successfully waited out NPR having the full album up until I can crank it up on my table this afternoon. I'm very excited.
Listened a bit earlier this week on NPR. Neither this one or Something More than Free are as good as Southeastern in my opinion. There are great songs on both of those, but I don't think there's one song that I skip while listening to Southeastern.

This one has a much different feel, I suppose back to it being a "full 400 unit" kind of album not a Jason Isbell solo joint (despite keeping his backing bad for all, from what Brian says).
You know what you need? A lyrical sucker punch to the face.

I really like Cumberland Gap, White Man's World, If We Were Vampires, and Hope the High Road. Vampires is a fantastic love song. Isbell really knows his way around a turn of phrase.

I'm excited for that. I've enjoyed a lot of the live stuff that's on youtube with the full band, especially the DBT stuff they play.

Your headline says it all. Feels good for a second to see good taste validated and a talented artist rewarded... then you see the other names on the list such as Nickelback and realize that mediocrity gets rewarded, too.

FWIW, Isbell is from here and still (mostly) lives here, and he is universally adored by the locals. Have run in to him twice, and both times he was humble and pleasant. Same with Patterson Hood and John Paul White (not associated, but similar genres). NW Alabama doesn't have everything going for it, but our musicians (in my experience) are top notch souls. Incredible to me the talent that has come out of a 100k population base.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but the 'Muscle Shoals' documentary is an enjoyable watch. It really captures the environment that the folks above grew up around, and why this is a garden spot for music.

I know this is not a new song, but does it drive anybody else crazy that Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam's album/song last year was "A 1000 Times" instead of "A Thousand Times" or "1000 Times"?

(I can't imagine this was brought up upthread, but I did not go through 32 pages of spins to check before posting this during my current unlurking period. I'm sorry if it was.)

30 seconds into the latest song from The National and it sounds like a Radiohead impression.

(Now I'm like a minute in and the lyrics have started and it no longer sounds like an impression.)

Hope they're touring too. I just got my first concert listing in Las Vegas that conflicts with a VGK game and I'm pretty bummed about it (most games I could try to work a trade with RamsFanny or sell the tickets or something, but this is the Red Wings game (and the second-ever home game at T-Mobile) so no way I'm missing that.

10/6 is USMNT's last hex qualifier in Orlando, Band of Horses in St. Pete, and opening night for the Lightning. I have tickets to two of these events already.

Robert Cray's new album is great.

(I know, it's old timey music, but it is a new album)

Okay, the video is a jokey/tragic compilation of Bills misery - but it goes perfectly with this song which I find amazing.

The band is called Protomartyr and I know nothing about them. But a great song.

First take is this song would fit perfect on the second half of "High Violet" if they didn't overproduce the fuck out of it. All the underlying stuff I love about them is there but it's trending in the wrong direction even beyond "Trouble Will Find Me".

It's one of my favorite tracks this year so far. I feel the need to post this every time I hear it, but I'm always driving.

I was listening to the Steven Hyden podcast "Celebration Rock" and he and someone else were talking about live albums.

How am I now just finding out that Jay-Z and The Roots did an "MTV Unplugged" back in 2001? Its fantastic.

I feel like this has happened to me every 6 months or so since I figured out who he was. Like it feels like he should be right next to Stipe in terms of legacy, no?

I'd say more so. Stipe, while great, hasn't made any new music in years, while Mould is still pumping out great albums, and touring on a regular basis.

I'm might be biased though, considering that outside of the Dead, Mould is the artist that I've probably seen the most times in concert.

Also, if you haven't read his book, you should. Its great.
