Damn, that's good. I love a marching band that really gets into it.

And the dozen or so students (or their parents) who immediately recognize the song and cheer.

I've been pretty spoiled band wise. My HS band had something like 50 years straight of superiors in local competitions, grew up an FSU fan, and despite the incessant racism of the chop, really is a great band, and I've seen the Marching 100 (FAMU) quite a few times as well. Hearing a well done cover by a marching band is so great.

That's a catchy song. Never heard it before. Kind of an Exile on Main Street sound.

This is painful. I have a hard rule about skipping songs on an album I’ve committed to listening to, but this is making me seriously rethink that. Two fucking songs where they just speak some over-earnest bullshit. It’s probably one of the worst albums I’ve listened to in recent memory. Perfect soundtrack for this shit baseball game.

I was dismissed yesterday by Giff and whoever about the notion it was probably a bad idea to run Verlander on short rest.

I am now setting forth the notion that Giff's music now sucks because my prediction came true.

I don't recall even responding to you. A poster (not you) said they'd be dumb if they didn't start JV. When they announced he was the starter, I quoted that post (not made by you) and simply said "They're not dumb..." as a way of announcing that to the board. I didn't even express an opinion about the decision, but I will admit I personally thought it was the right one even understanding the other side.

So please, fuck right off.

It's their best yet I think.
A couple of reviews of Sturgill Simpson's album mentions QotSA as having similar sounds so I started checking them out a couple of days ago. Really enjoy it. I think Songs for the Deaf is my favorite so far, but I hven't made it through everything.

What if I suggest Kanye is for people who don’t like rap in the same way it is with Marley/reggae, Cash/country, Sinatra/crooner ... ?

Nah, Kanye had lots of good music between the start of his career and Dark Fantasy. He just couldn’t keep it up, which happens all the time in every genre of music. As an obvious example, even though U2’s stuff has been boring for the last 20+ years and Bono has gotten increasingly irritating, it doesn’t change how great their earlier stuff was. I’d also argue that if Jay-Z didn’t have an extremely culturally relevant wife, more people would note that his music hasn’t been all that good since I was in college.

Yeah, my comment and the tweet I attached aren’t totally in line. I’m sure he’s done good stuff, but I’ve always gotten the feeling he’s on a pedestal because of people who don’t otherwise care about rap. Like I have no idea where Bob Marley deserves to rank on the all-time reggae list, but I do know for certain that 100% of people who don’t listen to reggae rank him #1.

I would have guessed the analogous rapper to your comment on Marley/Reggae would have been Tupac or Eminem.

Except that I know Kanye West is utter garbage, whereby I know Bob Marley knew enough to let Peter Tosh rip the cords and well, Dolly Parton had big tits.

Yeah, Kanye West is g-a-r-b-a-g-e.

New DBT album on 1/31/20 and in case you thought they might not be continuing along the same lines as “American Band” the track list includes a song called “Babies In Cages”.
