In a general population vote, NJ would do pretty well just from the Sinatra and Bruce fans.

Tennessee especially if you count Jack White's various projects as TN since he's living there now. Same for Lucero and Jason Isbell who aren't from there, but live there now. You'll get Johnny Cash and most of country music.

I think for me it would be North Carolina and it would be a pretty easy decision -- The Mountain Goats, Iron & Wine, Superchunk, the Avett Brothers, Hiss Golden Messenger, Ryan Adams/Whiskeytown, American Aquarium and a few others I'm probably forgetting.

* - I'm using from or associated with fairly loosely, but I think it's fair to say all of the above are from NC or based there, just like Drive-By Truckers are "from" both Alabama and Georgia.
You could add Rhiannon Giddens/Carolina Chocolate Drops and Caitlin Cary to NC, too.

Texas would be a solid contender, too (at least for music I like), with all the Austin-based acts. Texas would include Steve Earle, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Vaughan, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Old 97s, Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Joe Ely, Lighting Hopkins, Freddie King, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Doug Sahm, Roky Erickson, Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, Pantera, ZZ Top, Reckless Kelly, Cody Canada, Nancy Griffith...
Spoon, Willie, Waylon, Georges Jones and Strait, Ben Kweller, Okkervil River, Explosions in the Sky, White Denim, The Gourds, Todd Snider (I'm claiming him), Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett, Randy Rogers Band, Mars Volta, Jerry Jeff Walker, Billy Preston, etc.
At the Drive In, Sweet Spirit, A Giant Dog, Tobe Nwigwe, etc.

You could probably squeeze Arcade Fire into Texas too. Speaking of which, A Giant Dog covered Neon Bible apparently. Can't wait to give it a listen.

Even if it isn't necessarily what I want to listen to, you have to admire Sturgill's willingness to go against the grain.

He also got a big write up in the Times...

Sturgill Simpson Leaves His Old Sound (and the Spotlight) in the Rear View
Earlier this month, Sturgill Simpson headed eastward from Lexington until he hit Highway 15, which he drove until it dead-ended into Highway 30. This was the way into Jackson, the sparse, hilly town of around 2,000 people he grew up in. Just before the intersection, a small sign announced that he was in the right place: “Hometown of Grammy Award Winning Artist Sturgill Simpson.”

“I can retire. How many Grammys do I need, right?” he asked from behind the wheel of his black Subaru WRX STI. “That’s 10 Grammys right there.”

I was hoping that when I watched the movie remember to breathe would have some context. But no. Seems like a rape anthem which is...really odd and a bit troubling ? When I was listening it seemed off and I have captions on for video and fee same. Anyone got any other explanations I am missing?

“Make Art Not Friends” would be a top 3 all-time ZZ Top song which hopefully is a compliment to them AND Sturgill Simpson.

KEXP has been counting down the top 666 albums, voted on by the listeners, for their pledge drive this week.
The top 10:

1. Ok Computer - Radiohead
2. London Calling - The Clash
3. Darkside of the moon - Pink Floyd
4. Nevermind - Nirvana
5. Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars - David Bowie
6. Funeral - Arcade Fire
7. Abbey Road - Beatles
8. Disintegration - The Cure
9. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Wilco
10. Revolver - Beatles

The only surprised for me was the Wilco..and Darkside of the Moon being so high on the list.

If you have a few hours to waste, this youtube guy combine fan videos with a good audio source to make concert videos. He's also converted old vhs recordings
https://www.youtube.com/user/DrCopperpot/videos mostly Nirvana, also Smashing Pumpkins, STP, NIN
https://www.youtube.com/user/JohnnyAirbag/videos lots of Radiohead, some Pear Jam
https://www.youtube.com/user/ChesterCopperPot5/videos So much DMB

And there's lots of 90's crowd footage in the one below, so I'm trying to see if Dave/Shirley is there

Abbey Road is what stands out to be as not being worthy of a public radio top 10. Revolver or Rubber Soul or Help, IMO are the best LPs indicative of indie music influence.

Their countdowns are always funny for the mix of indie favorites that wouldn’t make the top 5,000 elsewhere in the top 50 and others in the top 20 that get absolutely no run on the station.

Yeah, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath don't get a lot of play, but they both had multiple entries on the countdown.
