Too old, I think. My college daughter is on steam and swears by it.

Civ V an improvement on Civ IV (other than being the next number)?

After having to look up Steam, I realize how out of touch I am with video games. PS2 is probably the most current system I have played. I have no concept, apparently, about how online gaming works. All this talk of video games has me excited to pull the Atari 2600 out of storage and fire it up. I have been waiting for my son to be old enough to laugh his ass off at the primitive games, and I think he is almost there.

I have steam, and I wouldn't be opposed to a copy of Civ.

Do they max at 6 characters or was the version with the 'e' already taken?

Hey, sorry for not responding earlier. It sounds like both bengal and AB have interest in the Civ V copy. If one wants it less than the other, let me know, otherwise I can flip a coin.

To bengal's question, I think Civ V is the best iteration since Civ II. It substantially revised a lot of the gameplay elements in a way that may at first seem like an oversimplification, but is actually a streamlining that eliminates a lot of the micromanagement that plagued previous versions, especially in the later stages, and lets you focus on more meaningful strategic decisions.

For those who have Steam, launch it and search for a game called Goat Simulator. Watch the second trailer for it. I haven't stopped laughing for at least 10 minutes.

Is that the one with the goat that uses its tongue to stick onto things, and kind of looks like Grand Theft Auto? If so, that clip is hilarious.

What is the name of the game that trailer is spoofing? It was a zombie game where a family goes on a vacation in a beach area? That video creeped me the fuck out. It was too real, and the music was eerie.

Considering a purchase of OOTP Baseball 15. I've messed around with the Football Manager demo and it's just overwhelming for someone with limited understanding of the game. Figure baseball is better for me. Anyone familiar with OOTP 15 and have a recommendation?

Thanks. Hmm. May go with OOTP anyway since it's 50% off right now on Steam. Figure that's not so much that I'd be pissed if I hate it.

Football manager has a lot of moving parts for sure, but I found it was an awesome way to really get into the european game and to understand tactics. i'd reccomend starting a game with one of the really good teams and playing a season or two with them to get a feel for the pacing and the feel without getting too downhearted by losing.

I found OOTP to be just as exhaustive but admittedly easier to grasp in terms of nuance.

Ive actually be playing more games on my iPad as of late.

Bastion has been pretty neat for 6 bucks, but the cream of the crop is FTL: Faster Than Light

Was skeptical at 15$ but I've played the hell out of it.

So far, it's the only game that's made me want to get a PS4. Then again, I'm a LOTR fan, so that helps.

I've had a few iterations of OOTP, and each one had a stretch of consuming my life for weeks on end. I might spring again with the current sale, thanks for the heads up.

Question for the others who play--do you play with real-world leagues or fictional ones? I've always preferred the latter as it frees me of biases and lets me make more abstract decisions.

He got the PS4 last week and it's been the game played 90% of the time (I sneak in a Madden game here and there.)

I want to play that game too. apparently takes the best of the Batman Arkham game - the fighting and merges it with the open world style of assassin's creed. That's a good matchup.

Got a PS4 for the house a few weeks ago. Shadow of Mordor is the game that has the kid hooked.

I mostly sit there and tell passers-by to get off my lawn, as I can't play the damn thing.

I beat Shadow of Mordor last night. For as awesome of a game as it was it had a terrifically easy ending. But maybe I'm just that good (my character was indeed maxed out)

I've come to appreciate the buildup in those RPG-type games. Most of the Batman Arkham series have been tremendous until the finish. Though I think it was the second one where the Boss fight to end it was truly epic.

I'm probably jumping over to the mobile version (branded as MLB Manager 15) - a little lighter on free features but it still has the license and then I wouldn't have to dig an actual computer out of cold storage.

Haven't bought a new version of OOTP in a few years as the added features haven't struck me as enough to warrant a new purchase, but I might take a closer look.

By the way, they're planning to release a similar football game this year, which is really overdue.

I bought MLB the Show for Ps4. Good god. What a tremendous game. My biggest gripe about the PS3 version was load times for games...no longer. I can play two weeks of my guys career in half an hour or so now where before that would be double the time.

Graphics are stupid, too. Hair is the only thing that doesn't look realistic, and I imagine we're not far from away from the technology that lets them manage that like disney did with Brave and the flowing red hair.

The game is insane. Looking forward to having time in, oh, the middle of May, to play it again.

I can't hit for shit though. I can pitch, but my pitch recognition at the plate is not good (and I've heard I'm not the only person who struggles with it).

I created my player but haven't used him much. I was playing the Royals' season and had grand plans of trying to keep up. Ha. I'm on Game 4 while they've played 18.

Thing that made me more excited than it should: remember Chip's Challenge, the simple, yet surprisingly punishing, puzzle/maze game that was included with early versions of Windows? A (slightly) enhanced version of it and its sequel are up on Steam for just a couple bucks.
