I've been looking for a different style game to play with my oldest(12). Something with more of a story. I settled on God of War over Witcher 3 and RDR2. They were all violent/bloody, but the in-game sex of the other two put me off.

We got it over the weekend and he has been hooked ever since. Weather has been terrible so it's been good timing. The entire concept of the game is great. A dad out bonding with his kid and teaching/learning from each other. We had to make a rule that we would only play the game together. It's single player so we just hand off the controller now and then.

This clip has some of the interactions. We are at the part around 1:10.

RDR2 grossed $725 million in its first three days. What a strange business. Invest a ton over years and hope for a blockbuster.

The advertisement onslaught was impressive too. Like 4 different podcasts that aren't in the same 'genre' I listen to advertised. That amongst the numerous ads on websites and TV. Money well spent. I'm almost tempted to buy a console and play. Almost.

So I had to free one of the exiled gang members who managed to almost get one of the in-good-standing gang members killed after a night of drinking at one of the saloons in the vicinity. Broke him out of jail by blowing out a cell wall by tying a rope with a hook on the end of it - which is affixed in some fashion to some sorta steampunk steam machine. You activate the lever and BOOM. Micah comes out. But first he murders his cellmate attempting to escape (cuz he was an O'Driscoll).

I wound up killing half the men in the town as we escaped. I now have a $300 warrant in that town. That's fucking substantial cuz I think I have like $95 right now, and every time I earn $, there's a reminder to donate some of it to the gang's lock box.

So it looks like I'm going to have to get my hands dirty.

Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in!

How's it compare to GTA? That's the last substantial game game I played.

GTA V?

I mean, it's more immersive than GTA V if only because it's in the natural setting where you truly become immersed. (me, anyway)...

It's more advanced than GTA V as well in that they're now borrowing from Ubisoft's Assassins Creed opus (letting the player pick up and examine, store, put back items - as well as interact and choose which direction the dialogue progresses)..I'm sensing that the player movement may have borrowed from Ubisoft as well..Though maybe it's Naughty Dog (Uncharted). But suffice to say your player in this game is more agile than any GTA iteration.

Edit: I like it more than GTA V. But then again, I felt that Red Dead Redemption was the most fun I'd ever had playing a video game. Skyrim runs a distant, (but you can still see it in the rearview mirror) second.

It's why you bought the latest generation gaming console. Holy crap.
Yeah. Friggin beautiful.

(And I love the "switch to cinematic" to let you not have to control your guy the entire time you're trudging. So far so good. Shooting dynamics a little different - and less accurate - than most games, which is probably more accurate in terms of real shooting.

Good stuff.

The PS4 Red Dead Redemption Bundle is $349 with no tax at the BX this week. That seems really good.

However, I'm reading a Forbes article that says XBox One X is the superior platform and you can get this Amazon deal that nets you both Fallout 76 & RDR2 for $459 + tax .

I'm redoing my kitchen, so I'll have to pass, but someone here might be able to use that info.

So, I got Red Dead Redepmtion 2 and...not sure I'm liking it too far? I'm about 2+ hours in and just a lot of tedious, clunky dialogue with a few on-rails fight scenes where other people are constantly shouting at you what to do. No real feeling of agency for the player so far. Plus the controls feel clunky compared to other games.

Maybe things will change, but I'm really waiting on it to open up at this point...

Apparently the multiplayer launches in a few weeks and you can just roam around with other people dropping in an out. Should be fun.

This mission pissed me off. I'd spent hours trying to play as a "good" outlaw who only killed those who had it coming, then this mission comes along and without any real warning makes you shoot up a bunch of lawmen and civilians, racking up a huge bounty I can't afford in a new area I just wanted to explore.

There's a gold bar or two in a lockbox of the sheriff's office in the burned out town just west of where you're staying in Horseshoe Overlook. Sell that shit at the fence that you probably just unlocked.

Thing I wish I'd earned earlier on RDR2: Do all the available white-circle side quests before any yellow-circle main story quests. Advancing the story will permanently lock out some uncompleted side quests.
