Would have much preferred the National opening for T. Swift back on Halloween 2015. Definitely would have been better than Shawn Mendes and Vance Joy.

Like what I hear so far. Her lyrics are a bit on the nose for me, but she's definitely talented, and the music is good.

I have a friend who live-tweeted his review of the first listed last night. @sirwranglelot, if you're interested.

Folklore is really, really good. It's not summery, but likely my album of the summer. Songs produced by Aaron Dessner are catnip to me.

Juicy Sonic Magic is a tremendously stupid name and his voice was like C- level even for him but JFC that’s a great show. Has never listened front to back before tonight. “Rylan” was close but not quite there yet, lyrically.

My appreciation of this album has only grown since the first listen. It's so so great.

Nobody puts Bryan in the corner.

The least likely National member to release a solo album does so. 2.5 songs in, and his voice (is it Bryan singing?) reminds me of Smashing Pumpkins B-sides that James Iha sang, which is to say not so great, and the same echo-y reverb effects are used.

The merch is VERY Bryan, although I'm surprised the hat isn't neon.

Fittingly, given how infuriating this album is, the only "interlude" that I think really works is Underwater, but if it *wasn't* included my choice would be the other three tracks that end the album.

Rylan
Underwater
Light Years

or maybe 4/5/6? No, stick with the last three on the album.

Sucks that only one of these songs is Dessner, but last great american dynasty, exile, my tears ricochet is a fantastic 3 song run.

So is he (1) a long time fan, (2) a backtracking fan or (3) a guy savvy enough to know covering/referencing off the first two albums would give him more cred among the fanbase?

Boomer and Mustang are both great tracks. There's a lot of Editors and TV on the Radio in there, a little Bloc Party as well.

Really like the stuff that was already released pre-full album (Mustang, Boomer, Kelly Rowland)(also 3 of the first 4 that you weren't jazzed about), the other stuff might need a little more time.

Enjoyed the "pains of being pure at heart" shout out at the beginning of Mustang.
