I expected a weird, fluke ice-aided goal. Although I would understand CR fans characterizing the US goal as flukey.

Keg & I were talking about that and if/when the US plays Costa Rica in the 2017 hex if the game is scheduled for May we should play that shit in Barrow, AK. Because fuck Costa Rica.

Considering the number of US players from warm weather areas, I'm not sure it is all that much of an advantage for us. Plus, we should have an advantage at home anyways and have more talent, so why negate that with weather? Maybe if we were playing Spain or Brazil in a qualifier.

I think it's a pretty huge advantage for us. Other countries get to exploit altitude or tropical rain or really shitty facilities, so I think it's totally understandable that we exploit our natural advantage.

But guys like Deuce never played in snow in Nagadoches, TX, or Landycakes in Southern CA, and nobody has ever practiced in a blizzard, so how is it an advantage? The US, as a full squad, has better technical ability than every team in the region except for Mexico, so why negate that? Nobody can play a precision passing game in a blizzard. Most CONCACAF teams rely on physical play, often dirty (I'm looking at you Guatemala!) to play the US. The may be able to match the US with a couple of really fast players, or strong players, or maybe even a well disciplined defensive shell and hope to catch a fast break goal. But playing in snow favors those teams, because it takes away the finesse game. Not that the US is extremely talented or play like Spain or Barca, but against non-Mexican CONCACAF rivals, they do. Listen, I love playing Mexico in Columbus in cold weather, because the Mexicans can't play in the cold. But it isn't like the US excels in the cold, and certainly not in the snow. Plus bad weather increases the likelihood of fluke goals, which favors the underdog.

Nagadoches gets cold weather and ice storms at least. I'm sure Landycakes has been to Park City.

If Whitehorse is on the list, then you might be right.

If I remember correctly, this was more of a Bleacher Report-ish thing that I read ranking Whitehorse 10th. Sunny summers! Not absolutely deathly bone-chilling in Winter! Horses! Jk, just named after horses!

Just coming here to post that. Guess they were protesting, not asking to continue play. I was going to say they should have walked off, but that would have been an automatic forfeit. My guess is FIFA allows the result, as the players weren't slipping on the filed at all, and the conditions weren't hazardous. You could see the lines the whole game, thanks to the crew.

Here are clips from two games that were official FIFA results. Granted they were league matches in former Soviet Republics, but still FIFA sanctioned matches:

RSL played a game at Cruz Azul a couple years ago where there was so much rain that passes were getting intercepted by puzzles.

That didn't stop RSL from blowing a late 3-goal lead.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I remember watching that game. The ball would hit the ground and just stop. It was like the ball and pitch were made of velcro.

Not feeling confident about tonight. If they can get through 60 minutes maybe Mexico gets tight but I don't see it.

Unlikely but it would be the best stolen point or points ever, especially because of where it would leave Mexico.

Absolutely. A point tonight is a stolen point. A loss is a shrugged shoulder "meh".

A stolen point is 3 stolen points. One for us and two denied to Mexico.

So ESPN has this one because they have the Mexican rights? Is this going to be en espanol? I'm still a little confused by it all.

Well, they survived the first half. Hope the USMNT has more in the tank for the second.

Americans looked better that last 10 minutes. Physically they look good having trained in Denver.
