I'm in almost complete agreement with you on these except Baltimore (though they're actually 78.5 at my local casino). I'm struggling to see how Baltimore is going to get to 79 wins. The AL East is down, but someone has to finish in last place in that division and the team that does is going to be around 70 wins.

I'll take 29 out of 30.

I've just always liked them O's.

Picked my best three: I ended up going with the unders on Miami (64.5), CWS (80.5), and NYM (74.5). Also took Pedro Alvarez at 50:1 to lead MLB in homers.

Brian, you put any change down on over/unders yet?

I did get down on Baltimore under 79.5 at basically even money. Mulling over some other ones. I hate to bet on or against Detroit (though I did bet the under on them last year), but I do like the Tigers over 90.5. They "struggled" last year to 88 wins and should be improved defensively (Hunter/Dirks at corner OF; Cabrera was way better second half last year and might even be near league-average;) SP (full season of Sanchez) and offensively (Martinez back at DH, Hunter instead of Young). Wild card I guess is how much improved KC and Cleveland are relative to last season.

Meat like the Tigers over as well. Seemed they just sleep-walked through much of 2012.

And being Delmon Young-less is big. Dirks had a real high BABIP last year, so who knows how he'll be with the stick, but he's gotta be worth more than Delms.

That was great. 1:50-ish with the cameraman falling into the lake is my favorite. I watched that part about 10 times.

Did we have a "Racism is dead" thread?
There's a lot of talk out there—and more than a little evidence—suggesting that this year's Duke Blue Devils, led by the very big and very mobile Jabari Parker, are the most athletic team in the school's history. We decided to investigate whether that claim is true. And since average vertical leap numbers through the years weren't readily available, we did the next best thing, and counted up all the black guys.
It doesn't get better from there.

In the comments, the author said it was intended to be a satiric way to try and benchmark Duke's title prospects, which...I'll be honest I'm not sure I got it. Good satire should usually hit you over the head.

I still don't understand what defiling his brother's headstone had to do with anything, but it was definitely something else.

Why Do So Many Sportswriters Love Bruce Springsteen?
When a sportswriter professes his devotion to Bruce Springsteen, he's making a statement about himself (or herself!). He's letting you know that he's a good old-fashioned hard-working American fella with strong values, just like you, Mr. and Mrs. Kitchen Table! You can count on your Bruce fanboy columnist to write about the game the RIGHT WAY, with buttloads of class. And you can count on your local columnist to be the sort of insufferable dipshit who looks back longingly on his Golden American youth and then somehow links it to a double play from last night's Reds game.

I might be dead wrong, but I've always assumed Bruce would hate most of those writer fans of his.

Didn't Bronto just discover Bruce in the last year or two?

2010

And I'll fully admit to not fanboi tweeting about Bruce. Though I was mad I didn't get to go to the concert in Dallas. Also, while I've used the title of a Springsteen song in posts before, I've also made *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys references too

Interesting idea, from Deadspin of all places all places
The United States has no database of police shootings. There is no standardized process by which officers log when they've discharged their weapons and why. There is no central infrastructure for handling that information and making it public. Researchers, confronted with the reality that there are over 17,000 law enforcement agencies in the country, aren't even sure how you'd go about setting one up. No one is keeping track of how many American citizens are shot by their police. This is crazy. This is governmental malpractice on a national scale. We'd like your help in changing this.
