The field kitchen chow hall here has just a few snacks: 3 flavors of Clif bars (chocolate chip, peanut butter chocolate chip, and one that I forget), Rice Krispy Treats, and 2 flavors of Pop Tarts (strawberry and brown sugar cinnamon). They haven't changed at all. I hope to never have to eat Pop Tarts again. I put honey on them today just to try something different.

So when I get a care package it's gold. And I basically inhale the goodies inside. Pringles? The whole can gone in minutes. Chili mango from Trader Joe's? Same. Oreos? Good fucking night.

When I get back to America and scan aisles for food while dressed in a hazmat suit, I'm just going to engorge myself on everything.

Today’s “treat yo self” purchase for bundling up and making the trip to the supermarket was “All Dressed Up” kettle chips and they’re great.

Queso Fundido Cheezits get a thumbs up, and I usually prefer the non-powdered flavoring varieties.

One of the tragic results of Covid-19 social distancing is that my wife does all the grocery shopping now, without me. So, we get much less junk food.

Thumbs down on Lays “Nashville Hot Chicken” and thumbs ambivalent on the much less promising sounding Pringle’s Rotisserie Chicken.

Fuck them (and an Utz Crab Chip) Herr’s Old Bay chips are still my summer vacation guilty pleasure.

The cheese and caramel popcorn mix has to be the most blatant and successful of accidental snack combination 'discoveries', right?

And it clearly happened when a few rogue kernels jumped the barrier in a 3-flavor tin. What was the 3rd variety? Doesn't even matter anymore.

For mass-produced ice cream this is pretty fucking great.

Especially the brown sugar bourbon vanilla.

I need to try this. not the world's biggest TH fan but I definitely want to try the bourbon vanilla stuff and it appears that they don't sell it by itself

(the blue bell chocolate sheet cake is good. we did funnel cakes + ice cream + chocolate sauce + caramel sauce + homemade chocolate chip cookies on Saturday night and I made the mistake of having two)

The TH Experience is a fun tour if you have little kids. You get to make your own flavor ice cream at the end.

This take is a couple of years in the making (taking?), but extra toasty (burnt) Cheezits work best as a complimentary flavor, like just one in a handful of reg Cheezits.

Picked one of those by accident a couple months back. Hate it when I do that. When I expect an artificial taste I expect that exact taste.

I like the extra toasty Cheezits in chili, but prefer the standard Cheeze-It for snacking. I do agree that alt-flavoured Cheeze-Its are better mixed in with the standard flavour.

These are good! I like reg goldfish, and probably like cheezits more, but I really like these. Though the bag really suffered from the trick where a bunch of air makes it look fuller than it is.

I was all set to come here and say they're just big Goldfish but the 9th handful definitely revealed some sharper flavors.

I got a bag for the kids. Tried one. Didnt taste like a cheez it to me. More like a goldfish. Didnt make it to the 9th goldfish, less handful. Maybe I missed out.

That brings up a point. I really love popcorn. But I'm not really a fan of microwave popcorn, and I detest the air-popped stuff.

I think the best way to go, by far, is with a stirring popper like the one shown below. Put in a copious amount of olive oil and popcorn and plug it in. Voilá. Popcorn. Added butter is unnecessary. Just add salt (and drizzle on some truffle oil, if you are feeling fancy). Delicious, and way tastier than the microwave stuff.

You don't even need that. Just a sauce pot with a lid. I prefer canola oil to EVOO, but other than that I'm with you. Pour just enough oil to cover the entirety of the bottom of the pot, and add what's essentially one layer of kernels, give or take. Crank up the burner to high and shake/slide the pot every now and then. Remove it from heat when the popping slows. Add salt to taste.

Yeah, that works, too. But, I don't want to have to shake/slide or worry about burning. That's why the auto-stirring is great. And, don't sleep on adding a drizzle of truffle oil to the finished product!
