Swamp Quarantine Movie Night - The Running Man (1987), Thursday, Feb 25 8:30 PM ET

Post by brian »

The Running Man (1987)
Director: Paul Michael Glaser (yes, the actor who played Starsky in Starsky & Hutch)
Screenwriter: Steven E. de Souza (who also wrote Commando and Die Hard)
Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Richard Dawson, Maria Conchita Alonso
Running Time: 101 minutes
Budget: $27 million
Box Office: $38.1 million
Streaming availability: Available on Amazon Prime
On-demand/PPV: $2.99/$3.99 on cable and satellite services
Other availability: Probably the usual rental places like Amazon, Roku, etc.
Start Time: 8:30 p.m. (movie starts at 8:40 p.m.)

Think most are aware of this, but The Running Man is based on a Stephen King novella. I’m still hoping to one day get an adaptation of The Long Walk, myself.

I haven’t had time yet to see if it’s available on Amazon Prime or Netflix, etc. When I do (or when anyone confirms that for me) I’ll update the above info.

We'll pause after the Battle Royale between Ben Richards and two of his colleagues against Subzero. It's at the 49 minute mark and it's an easy spot to remember because "More To Come" appears on the screen.

Yep. Will end its 46-week reign of terror in the DVR the way it was supposed to end - after being watched for this project.

We can all start at the point where the Tri-Star pegasus is just about to leap through the screen. Too bad I didn't have any acid.

So yeah, speaking of which actually before the movie starts, it's pretty obvious the filmmakers totalitarian dystopia in this movie is a Communist one. I base that mostly on "Cadre Cola" placements and I give them credit for not beating the audience over the head with it considering it was the Reagan Era 80s, but the irony is that audiences totally would probably peg it as a Fascist dystopia.

Applies only to people who actually know the different between Fascism and Communism, so basically no one on the Right.

If you walked out of a movie theater and were told two actors in this movie would one day be governors of US states, which two would you have picked? I might have guessed Arnold, but no way I get Jesse Ventura.
