Well, I believe people who use that term usually mean it as a synonym for "heavily armed", so clearly Trump thinks some mosques essentially are ISIS cells, ready to shoot good 'muricans.

Maybe we should look into closing all mosques, just to be sure. As Thomas Jefferson said, it is better to persecute an entire class of people than to let one member of that class get away with something. Actually, that would apply to welfare, too. It's better that millions go hungry than one person buys a lobster with food stamps. Or drives a cadillac.

Say what you want about Hillary, but can you imagine any of the current Republican candidates sitting there and making coherent statements for over 10 hours in the public spotlight like she did yesterday?

Had the same thought. She was poised as fuck, and fought back. I imagine Gowdy's idiocy bragging about the commission being a political takedown attempt bolstered her. Elijah Cummings fucking kicked ass. His "questions" to Clinton were long rants against the Republicans and the hearings themselves. Gowdy looked really creepy, almost like PeeWee Herman with a poor attempt at a fauxhawk. Fauxhawk is accepted as a word in spellcheck! For the first time, the thought of Hillary as President didn't bother me. I still don't trust her and think she is a corporate shill, but she kicked ass. I'm embarrassed for all the times I made fun of her claim of a "vast Right Wing Conspiracy" trying to take her and Bill down. I was a young, naive kid.

And I have nothing against twinks. I just feel bad that for them because he looks like one. Like an even gayer Dan Savage.

I think the difference between Ben Carson and other morons who we've seen run for President is that he doesn't have a party-approved script to follow. Sp what falls out of his mouth is particularly mind-numbing.

Just had a thought. If this is the first leadership race we've seen where people from outside the party are leading the campaign... what, or who, the hell is going to crop up in 4 years?

Meh, it may just be the new model. If they're going to start the presidential campaign a full 12 months before anyone with a life cares about it, then expect weirdos and charlatans to dominate those 12 months.

Exactly. Weren't Bachmann and the Palin dominating the media's time at this? Not that Palin was even running, but she still got a lot of media attention.

Neither one of them were leading the polls for as long as Trump has, if at all. I don't think either of them ever received Carson-level numbers either.

Correct. People keep drawing a line from now to then, but isn't quite the same. Rubio may/should eventually be the insider annointed guy, but this isn't going as smoothly for the kingmakers this time around.

Same week in 2011, Paul and Cain were dominating the straw polls. Paul's campaign had a little more gravitas than anyone else we're talking about here, but same idea--non-viable candidates leading the way.

Carson/Trump/Hucklebee/Cruz polling at a collective 60%. Establishment candidates in the 30s collectively. Was never ever like that in 2011. Establishment candidate aggregate numbers were always higher and when it settled on Romney as the one establishment candidate, he was the guy.

Now? The percentage who seem cool with crazy is over 50% in the polling. Some version of that crazy four is in this for a long time.

ETA: Not sure what box to put Fiorina in - establishment or outsider/crazy. If she is the latter, the collective establishment approved candidate percentages is pretty anemic.
