And here I was about to get all wah wah because my assignment to Japan got cancelled because the Air Force is a bureaucracy with no one you can pin blame on.

But yeesh. I'll wait a few days and post in the rants thread.

Edit: Going to Kirtland, New Mexico. It was initially Whiteman, Missouri but I was able to get it changed.

Know it wasn't your first or probably even 10th choice, but I think you'll like the ABQ. Weather's not bad, people are nice and the food is outstanding. Lots to do too.

It is a nice base. ABQ is a strange and great place. Grown a lot since I left there. As Brian stated, the food is stellar, the weather is pretty great...

What are your views on drawn in eyebrows and lip liner?

(Kirtland used to be basically a research base with very few "real" air force personnel, guess a crap load has changed.)

Sante Fe Brewing Company's Happy Camper IPA is outstanding. I had some when I was in Wichita a couple of weeks ago. Wish I could get it locally!

I LOVE that beer, but it's not the best IPA in NM, that would be La Cumbre's IPA. On the level of much more celebrated IPAs, just not well known.

I"m glad that NM / ABQ wasn't as known for beer / breweries when I was school.

Syb, it literally could have been. When a person like me falls into the precarious position of needing an assignment ASAP, a process called "command of entitlement" is triggered. The current Major Command in the Air Force with the entitlement is Global Strike.

Installations assigned to AFGSC include Barksdale Air Force Base, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Minot Air Force Base, F. E. Warren Air Force Base, Dyess Air Force Base, Ellsworth Air Force Base, Kirtland Air Force Base, and Whiteman Air Force Base.

It's why Whiteman was initially granted to me and why it was changed to Kirtland.

Luckily, a friend from my first tech school in Biloxi 13 years ago who I was deployed with and stationed with here in my current career field is the guy who can allocates assignments in this command. Kirtland's manning was actually in dire need of people more than other bases. So the blow I was dealt was tempered by having at least some say.

Congrats, you guys. You now know more about the assignments process than roughly 85% off the Air Force.

Last July we stayed at the motor inn just off the plaza where The Bite is now. My parents have been eating that burger for years. It was ok to me. I don't like wasting a meal there on anything but New Mexican food. Tia Sophia's is the favorite of my wife and I while my parents prefer The Shed.

The motel wasn't bad either. It's old, but it's so close to the plaza it's worth it.

I worked at El Patio in ABQ for two years. I liked GCEs until I made about 200 million of them, rather not see them again in my lifetime.

Though my cooking claim to fame, JFK Jr. gave me props from my #10s (the GCes.)
