2015 MLB Awards

Post by mister d »

AL MVP: Trout (over Donaldson and Machado)

NL MVP: Harper (voters going any other way should lose their vote)

AL Cy Young: Keuchel (over Price / Sale / Archer / Kluber, who are the only 5 who should get votes)

NL Cy Young: This is impossible ... Gerrit Cole is 5th at best and would have an argument for the award in the AL ... I guess today I'd go Greinke, Arrieta, Kershaw, Scherzer but that might change tomorrow (interesting to note that 3 of the likely top 6 (Greinke, Scherzer and Bumgarner) are also top 7 in pitcher batting for the season)

I think my laptop is overheating.

I have Donaldson getting it by a hair and otherwise no different than any other pick.

NL RoY: Kris Bryant

AL RoY: Greg Bird ... I know it was under 200 PAs, but he had to step into a pennant race and replace a middle-of-the-lineup slugger and did a great ... not really. I went in thinking it would be Betts because I had no idea he wasn't a rookie this year. Semi-toss-up, but I'll go Correa over Lindor with Sano 3rd.

For the first time since Jeter got fucking robbed, I'm semi-looking forward to the awards, mostly because three are legit tossups and the 4th will make fun gawking.

(I just hate strikeouts. But Duffy doesn't walk enough yet, and his power is faint compared to Bryant. Matt will have to settle for second place.)
Who knows? Maybe, you were kidnapped, tied up, taken away and held for ransom.

Kershaw freaking struck out over 300. I can't get past that.

The NL CY race is so tight that even though they're not supposed to I wonder if the voters will put any stock in postseason performance as a tiebreaker.

ETA: I honestly don't know when their ballots are supposed to be in. I seem to remember at one point it was even after the postseason. Did they make them be turned in before the playoffs since then?

You'd think, but I don't think that has always been the case. I could be wrong.

I was always under the impression voting was done before the playoffs started.

I think for NL Cy Young, if you take into account Runs Allowed (not just earned runs), then you have to go with Greinke. Otherwise I think it's Arrieta.

Kershaw has fantastic K numbers, but he's (marginally) behind both Greinke and Arrieta in opponents' OBP, SLG, etc., plus the old-timey numbers like ERA and wins.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

That's the number that got me yesterday; even if Greinke uses RA and Arrieta ERA, Greinke is lower. Its not predictive and defense and ballpark can help and all that, but for a retrospective pitching award where there's no indication of luck over skill, preventing runs is pretty much the key.

Would like to look at that with a chart of the defensive ratings of the home teams.

Like Harper, I also mispronounced "meme" the first time I said it in public. Sooooooo humiliating.

I would prefer to know whether a person knows how to pronounce "meme". Because if they can, I'll know that they're an idiot and not to take note of their opinions. Sandpaper.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.
