Fox isn't a very good in-game strategist but he at least deserves credit for assembling a top-tier coaching staff. Gase and Fangio are two really good, and very sought after, coordinators. Fox also had some impressive assistants on his Denver teams. At least some part of being a good professional head coach is assembling and managing a coaching staff. The contrast between Mark Jackson and Steve Kerr is another good illustration of this.degenerasian wrote:John Fox makes wrong decisions every week, somehow he survives.

Agreed. Every week, the Chicago papers keep building the storyline of Gase getting a head coaching job next year because of his work with Cutler this season.

Re: NFL Week 12
My family's visiting this week to check out a school for my kids, look at houses, and generally sightsee. Microsoft put us up in a nice hotel in Bellevue and apparently it's the same hotel the Steelers are in. I had no idea until I walked out this morning and there are five buses and a bunch of police motorcycles lined up outside. I haven't seen the players and unfortunately as I said in another thread, I'm not likely to recognize very many if I did.
Totally Kafkaesque

Sammy Watkins. Man...
On another subject, they just showed a booth shot of Kenny Albert and Moose Johnston in the NYG/WAS game, and my kid was shocked at the depth of the voice coming out the (much) shorter one of the two.

Hey TB! How do we feel about me missing the first 5 minutes (at least) of the PIT/SEA game because the Jets game is running long and the Sunday Ticket channel is blacked out? I just want to watch the game!

When you guys see the highlights of the Bills-Chiefs games, pay close attention to the two plays - one in each half - that self-styled genius Rex Ryan and hs staff of imbeciles decided not to challenge.
I have never seen anything like it - they literally cost the Bills the game.
The headhunters are going to be out in force, as it is clear that Ryan is an empty suit.

I feel sick.First, he failed to challenge a Jeremy Maclin catch that would have been overturned. The Chiefs scored one play later. He then wasted a challenge on a Robert Woods drop that cost his team a timeout, and he decided not to challenge a Chiefs first down on which Alex Smith appeared to come up short of the sticks. Late in the fourth quarter, he opted not to challenge a Tyrod Taylor incompletion to Chris Hogan that may have been overturned. Finally at the end of the game, Ryan challenged a play on which Taylor came up short of the first down and lost the challenge.
In short, Ryan was 0-5 on his challenge decisions.
The Bills also had nine penalties for 91 yards, stayed conservative on fourth-down decisions and failed to get Sammy Watkins involved in the second half of the game after he lit up the Chiefs for 158 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.

Tomlin just challenged and reversed a Seattle catch. If only Rex Ryan had those people working for him.

Glad that they got a loss, sucks it was to the Broncos as I have to hear it from my wife all week, but playoffs still run through Foxboro, and hopefully no more injuries. Glad that they have basically the cupcake game against Philly next week. No more fucking injuries please.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Patriots Twitter is just the absolute best. It's going to really suck when Brady retires and the Patriots suck again and Boston fans go back to not giving a shit about football.

From today's Buffalo News:rass wrote:
So was that guy telling Rex "no" really the team pastor?
http://bills.buffalonews.com/2015/11/29 ... -on-hogan/The play obviously should have been challenged. CBS cut to a shot of Rex Ryan. An assistant in the press box, detached from the sideline madness and with the help of TV monitors, presumably was instructing Ryan what to do.
But stationed at Ryan’s left shoulder was team chaplain James Trapp, among the spiciest hotheads when he played defensive back for the Oakland Raiders, Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars from 1993 through 2003.
Trapp, the hood from his parka pulled up, tapped Ryan’s arm. Trapp shook his head repeatedly and said, “No, no, no.”
The risk of challenging and the call being upheld would mean a lost timeout.
Perhaps still feeling burnt by a failed challenge in the third quarter, Ryan didn’t throw his red flag on Hogan’s “incompletion.”

Re: NFL Week 12
NFL refereeing seems to be a completely random thing these days. No idea which was most calls are going to go, or why.
And Mike Carey! From listening to him make pronouncements yesterday on the Hawks/Steelers game, and then have to backpedal after getting corrected by Jim Nantz about the rules, I can't believe he was ever ref'ed a peewee game, let alone a SuperBowl...

Re: NFL Week 12
Maybe he can do what Matt Millen did on the Colts/Bucs broadcast and just flat admit he was in way over his head. Millen said something akin to "Everyone thinks they can do a GMs job. It's hard! I thought I could run a team and clearly I was wrong. Sorry that didn't work out Detroit fans." in the second quarter of the broadcast yesterday, right after my g/f asked who that was and I explained to her he was a poor GM several years ago for Detroit, so he went ahead and said that to back me up I assume.DaveInSeattle wrote:NFL refereeing seems to be a completely random thing these days. but now I see Rex Ryan is trying to blame Arrowhead Stadium for him not knowing what plays to challenge and which ones he shouldn't.
