Tirico was going nuts in the booth, if he could recognize it, you'd think an NFL coach would too.

Reading on Twitter that Pettine said in post-game press conference that McCown has a collarbone injury. So, do the Browns stick with Austin Davis or does Johnny get yet another chance?

Amazing Browns stats:
- Since 1999, the Browns have lost 42 games in the last minute of play.
- Since 1999, the Browns have lost 22 games on the last play of the game.
- In 2015 alone, the Browns have lost three games on the last play of the game.
EDITED TO ADD THIS NUGGET:
- Since 1999, the New England Patriots have lost 74 games.
- Since 1999, the Browns have lost 42 games in the last minute of play.

Well, if last night's game is any indication it looks like it's a 4th year QBs' league.Sabo wrote:Reading on Twitter that Pettine said in post-game press conference that McCown has a collarbone injury. So, do the Browns stick with Austin Davis or does Johnny get yet another chance?
Truthfully, why not give him a shot? McCown really isn't the long term answer, looks like at least Pettine has given up on Johnny, or perhaps its the entire braintrust, give the kid a shot. Maybe you find something and you use that high draft pick on some other position of need.
I don't really follow CFB all that much, but aren't all the QB prospects sort of meh this year? No sure fire superstars, not even any guys that are guaranteed anything more than prospects at this point?
ETA: Well I guess the the Lynch guy from Memphis has caught fire, but not guaranteed to even declare, and there are scheme and competition questions.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

The great (sorry) thing about all the reactions from Browns fans is that there's very little screaming and anger, mostly just quiet resignation.
Oh, and also there's apparently a rumor kicking around from a credible source that a major sexual harassment scandal involving multiple levels of the organization is about to break.

I like that the cutoff is 1999, even though the Patriots went 13-19 in '99 and '00 but it still works because the Browns went 5-27.Pruitt wrote:Since 1999, the Browns have lost 173 games.Sabo wrote:Amazing Browns stats:

I didn't see a selection on Pro Football Reference's team game finder that would search for this (or a google search in general), but anyone have any clue how often the deciding score happens in the final minute?Pruitt wrote:Since 1999, the Browns have lost 173 games.Sabo wrote:Amazing Browns stats:

Those stats above have it at 24.3% of the time, the Browns lost in the final minute of play (and 12.7% of the time on the final play - OT obviously affects that - this fun article says they have 11 OT losses). That's four games in an NFL weekend (non-bye week, obviously), which seems well above average.

They play at the same time all the time. Usually on different networks though. I think if there's a chance the Jets and Giants are playing at the same time on the same network (which would be rare since AFC teams only get two games on Fox and NFC teams only get two games on CBS), they will move one of the games to the 4 p.m. ET window. The Sybian wrote:rass wrote:I'm in North Jersey!degenerasian wrote:rass wrote:Hey TB! The source of that information is a former Bengals beat writer who is from Youngstown and is a Browns fan. I haven't verified his data, but I'm assuming he's correct.DSafetyGuy wrote:I didn't see a selection on Pro Football Reference's team game finder that would search for this (or a google search in general), but anyone have any clue how often the deciding score happens in the final minute?Pruitt wrote:Since 1999, the Browns have lost 173 games.Sabo wrote:Amazing Browns stats:

Re: NFL Week 12
Word is he might serve as their third quarterback...which brings me to my question...if third string QB comes in to play that means no other QB can enter the game again. But does that only mean if he plays quarterback or could they use him as WR, where he nearly made the team earlier this year?
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Re: NFL Week 12
It's actually pretty rare. I don't remember it ever happening as kid. Giants always played at 4, unless the Jets were on the West Coast, then they switched. One year they pushed back a Jets game because of Yom Kippur, and another time a World Series game pushed the teams to play at the same time. It's happened a couple times recently due to flex scheduling towards the end of the season and both teams sucking, so they switched the 4:00 team to 1:00 to show a better game nationally. I saw one explanation that the league wanted to show Steelers Seahawks nationally.brian wrote: They play at the same time all the time. Usually on different networks though. ETA: They have only played at the same time 10 times in the last 35 years, half of those games in the last 4 years, due to end of the season shuffling to put on better games nationally. This leads to shitty 1:00 blackouts on Fox when the Giants play at 4:00 and CBS has the double header. At least I think that is why there are blackouts. Nothing like 3 hours of infomercials instead of football.

The Browns absolutely should sign Terrelle Pryor.
I think the QB rule only applies when you don't make your 3rd QB active (it's a special designation).
What can a big, fast raw athlete at WR that can also play QB do to hurt a 3 and whatever team that has sucked goat-ass for like 10 years?

I don't think there was ever a Jets/Giants specific rule, but there was (is?) the blackout rule for in-market home games. Under normal circumstances, FOX wouldn't have been able to show a game last Sunday vs the Jets, at home, on CBS, but I guess because it was the Giants (or because the blackout rules have been changed?) it was allowed.

Giants at least always have sold out though so I don't think they've probably ever been blacked out in metro NY/NJ. I didn't realize there was a specific rule about them playing at the same time. I would have assumed there would be several times both would play at 1 since they're both in divisions with all eastern teams.rass wrote:C'mon. So, in 2000-2014, there are 3,840 games, plus the 176 this year makes 4,016. That means 5.8% of all games end in last minute, including the Browns games. So, it happens to the Browns (42 times in 261 games - 16.1% of the time) over three times as often than to every other team (191 of 3755 - 5.1%)?Ryan wrote:I've got 233 game-winning drives that ended with less than a minute left in the 4Q since 2000

That book is awesome.
And, I might be the only one feeling nostalgic, now that the NFL no longer is blacking out home games for non-sellouts. For years, I could watch the Broncos on tv here in the Bay Area, because the Raiders used to rarely sell out, with the Broncos' games often the replacement. Damn the Raiders for getting respectable, now!
