Last night was my squadron's Christmas party. I was the emcee. It was a small dinner gathering of roughly 45 people. It also had an ugly Christmas sweater theme. This was mine.

Anyhoo, after 3 beers and 2 shots of grappa within the first couple hours or whatever, I roasted about a dozen people from my squadron including my commander, vice commander and the superintendent that gave me the bogus letter of reprimand. I killed. Everyone was in stitches.

At the end of it all my commander exclaimed "Where has this guy been the entire time?" If only I could be half drunk at work every day that guy would be there lightening the mood. I was given some high praises by everyone. They all thought that I may have done something like that before. I haven't.

And to think that I was pretty worried before it all went down, hence the alcohol binge. The rest of the night went really well too.

The Air Force base in Bumfuck, New Mexico is Cannon AFB in Clovis. Luckily that's not a base in the Major Command I'm assigned to. It's widely regarded as one of the worst bases in the Air Force.

But as to Timbuktu...I guess he could have said that. But "Bumfuck" is the typical standard saying for a shitty place in the middle of nowhere.

Edit: On your Wiki link smack in the middle of the picture is a place called Agadez in Niger. The unit I'm assigned to now has "business" on that base. I can't get into specifics, but I'm sure you can find a Vice link or Al-Jazeera link describing the "colonizing" of Africa these days that no one seems to know about.

I just really updated my GPU (to a GeForce 970) and the updater is all about NVIDIA Stream which allows you to play desktop games on Sheild devices, which includes tv, mobile, and tablet. I just play on my TV with HDMI, but pretty neat idea, that I wouldn't really use.

Just had a literal random thought: aren't name tags on retail employees kind of an antiquated concept? I mean, there is no practical reason for me need to know the name of the person who sells me a pair of shoes or makes me a sandwich. They seem to be there to encourage the type of horrible asshole who calls up corporate and complains that Kelly wouldn't let them return a seven year old jar of mayonnaise without a receipt. I've notice most independent/small businesses don't have them, and that's probably the way to go.

Retail jobs can often be a bit thankless and you have to deal with a lot of miserable people. I try to call people by their name when I greet them. I like to think it makes them feel less detached from the customer and brightens their day a little bit.
