I make the bed whenever I wash the sheets, so around once a week.

Do we need to have a sheet-washing habits discussion as well?

Same. (Unless someone is coming over and there's any chance they'll be seeing the bed.)

I can't explain why, but I always sleep better in a made bed than an unmade bed. Thus, I make my bed every day, even if it's right before I go to sleep.

I have 2 beds in my house. Both are unmade.

And I go the extra step. I dump all the clothes from the dryer onto one because folding clothes is a waste of time too.

Things like this are why being married wouldn't be good for me.

Make the bed every morning. Its one of my GF's little OCD things. The bed has to be made every morning, to her rather exacting standards. She says her Mom taught her to make the bed first thing every morning, because that meant you had already gotten one thing successfully completed that day.

Only when the sheets get changed or the possibility of a girl staying over. Usually they coincide.

Only for the possibility of a girl staying over the first time. Otherwise, completely useless. My housekeeper will make it when she changes the sheets, and it just looks weird.

I lay the bedspread/quilt/comforter over the bed neatly every day. The sheets underneath do not get smoothed, tucked, or otherwise neatened except when I'm putting on clean ones (usually weekly). I do not require the children to make their beds except when company is coming.

I make it every morning - Psychologically - to me an unmade bed in an adult's room is kind of disturbing. (My mother made her bed very first thing in the morning.)

However, I no longer make my kids' beds. Or wash their sheets. And I can tell you that my mother's fastidiousness will die with me.

Here's another question, when you sleep are the sheets tucked in the end of the bed or not.

If yes then the bed is already made, all the time.

Untucked. My legs seem to get hotter than the rest of my body when I sleep.

We make the bed during the week when my mom in-law is staying with us. Weekend it's unmade, but I at least like to make it without the actual comforter. We have one we sleep under and one that goes on top of that one for decoration. The latter stays on the floor from Friday morning to Monday morning.

Having the sheet untucked drives me nuts. But it often comes untucked anyway, and I don't actually care enough to get up during the night to tuck it back in.

I much prefer untucked. My wife much prefers tucked. More than one marital disagreement has arisen from this.

And, while we are on the subject, how has this not yet been posted??

We're a diverse family.

I'm generally neater (I call it 'organized' -- that sounds more functional) than my wife around the house. But I leave the bed disheveled. She loosely makes the bed each day, even if it's five PM when she gets to it. Untucked, of course. That's kind of a fundamental sign of mental health, or at least a creative spirit.

Daughter #1 never made a bed until she left home. I 'won' the parental argument about the kids' bedroom tidiness issue by agreeing to be the parent-in-charge on this topic. That is, I lost -- I became the one to address issues of food deposits, lost books, and electrical hazards. My edict: do whatever you want as long as you can get to the door in a hurry in case of fire. And no felonies without prior notice. I told her that when I was her age I kept my trombone on my bed. She pretty much follows in the spirit of this tradition. But I had a queen-sized bed. Now in a college triple, she says she's astonishingly neat. I'm not surprised. Ideally it should be about the situation, not the disposition.

Daughter #2 requires her bed be in perfect order. This includes serious de-wrinkeling and arranging the 25 or so stuffed animals that sit in a particular pattern on top of the comforter, and another 10 that are nearby on the floor and a ledge. This arranging can only be done by my wife (that is, I won). This is one of the more benign symptoms of autism. Especially so as she doesn't take this quirk on the road. Hotel room beds are different somehow, and don't trigger this response.

Are you a bunch of seven-year olds? Make your bed when you wake up to make sure you don't go back to bed, and fold your clothes when they are out of the dryer while you are in front of your tv. Are you children still unsure of the whole "wiping yourself after you go #2" trend?

What kind of mature adult requires a made bed as a deterrent to not go back to sleep in the middle of the day?

The 20-minute nap is the best productivity secret. I just always make sure I sleep on the couch vs. the bed.

I don't have strong feelings on the the jeans issue. But, fresh clean sheets on your (made) bed are really nice.
