Re: 2016 Presidential Race
Interestingly, this focus group of one, resident of a Super Tuesday state, has seen ~20 campaign ads in the last week, mostly during college basketball games. All but two were Cruz ads attacking Rubio. One of the others was a Bernie ad on BTN, the other was a Rubio ad attacking Trump and Cruz that looked hastily put together. (The Cruz ads were quite well done, by the way.) I mean, this is in the last week. That's one of the stories I will tell my Canadian grandchildren.

Rubio's explanation of why Congressmen endorsing him can't name one thing he has done to warrant an endorsement isn't helping.

I think the scary thing is how well Cruz did. If he wasn't universally hated within the GOP, I could see them building a coalition around him. As it is, some of the guys who might be compelled to drop out like Kasich and Carson might stay in just to screw Cruz.

Don't think he did well. Won his own state, tx lite next door, and Alaska. He totally failed at the real southern prizes from Super Tuesday and those were the main part of his strategy. And trump got plenty of delegates out of Texas to boot.brian wrote:I think the scary thing is how well Cruz did. Good news for me on the watch them burn team is both Rubio and Cruz will push on, as will kasich, and the splintering of those fucks and their morally bankrupt party gets worse. Can't fucking wait.

At this point I am that scene in Seinfeld when Elaine kept losing her bet with Jerry because she kept going back to putty and Jerry just laughs and laughs as she pays off the bet each time.

Re: 2016 Presidential Race
It amazes me that Cruz won 0 of Georgia's 159 counties. About 150 of them were tailor made for Cruz if you don't account for the existence of Trump. Some of these counties have like 500 voters--I could win them just by walking around with a confederate flag. And he seems to be a good campaigner, and he poured a lot of money into ads.

Rubio's followup to Wallace was great, "we did, but you can't make people read." So they didn't have time to prepare written statements telling supporters what to say, but 30 seconds later, they did send the statements, but his supporters support him so strongly, they can't bother to read a statement before appearing on national news programs? Rubio himself can't state one thing he has done showing he is ready to be President.

If you were a Republican and hate/fear Trump, who are you going to vote for? Cruz is the only possible candidate to defeat Trump at this point. I think the only thing keeping Cruz from putting Trump down at this point is all of the other candidates splitting the "anyone but Trump votes."brian wrote:I think the scary thing is how well Cruz did. Why is Carson still in this?
I understand Kasich can win a couple of states and Rubio is putting all his chips into the winner-take-all 99 delegate of Florida.

Re: 2016 Presidential Race
That's what I mean. Their own damn party can't agree behind who to coalesce because they freaking hate Cruz. They tried to get the rank and file behind Rubio, but they (rightly) see him as a stuffed shirt and/or Romneybot 2.0. The GOP's demonizing of "government" and "Washington" is paying off big time for Trump. The Sybian wrote:If you were a Republican and hate/fear Trump, who are you going to vote for? Re: 2016 Presidential Race
Yep, probably hoping for a job with Fox. Same reason Huckabee, Palin, Santorum and others run. Pretty funny how many former presidential candidates get gigs on Fox. Or in Huckabee's case, get a show, give up the show to run for office, then probably get another show or paid regular appearances. I can't see Carson getting a show, unless the hope is he puts people to sleep and they leave the channel on while sleeping.rass wrote:$$$$degenerasian wrote:Why is Carson still in this?

Re: 2016 Presidential Race
Huckabee and Santorum actually won states and led at some point with a path to the nomination. Just got swept by McCain and Romney respectively in the winner-take all states. So they have some credibility for tv.
Carson has nothing to offer on tv. Not in politics, no chance of winning, can't even poll 10% in any state. He's got 8 delegates so far.

Re: 2016 Presidential Race
I find it interesting that for all of the record GOP turnout, HRC has gotten more votes than Trump in most of the open primary states, where presumably most people are walking in the door and voting for the person they would most want to see as president. (I'm assuming that most strategic voting cancels out in the end.) Like way more votes--a total of 500,000 if you add up the 11 open primary states that have voted. And she's the one with charismatic and well-organized opposition.

That's true, but it's still a little disheartening to see the lengths Bernie supporters are going to shit on Hillary. I had to unfollow a couple of former Swampers on Twitter because literally every other post was crazy, insane shit from infowars or breitbart on Hillary eating babies and shit. But that's accounted for somewhat in the much higher turnout on the GOP side. Just looking at the open primary states from last night, I estimate about 2.5-3M more votes on the GOP side. That said, I don't think this data point says all that much, but I do think it sets the floor, since you have to assume the vast majority of people in those states decided to vote for the person they most wanted to be president, rather than to cast a strategic vote. I accept that assumption even though I was a strategic voter.

Very interesting. I have no problem believing Carson was completely clueless. I heard his comment about the mishandling of his campaign funds, and thought it was a really bizarre statement. He basically said his team was either incompetent or embezzling, and I don't think he realized what he implied.Brontoburglar wrote:Rass' post is right.degenerasian wrote:Huckabee and Santorum actually won states and led at some point with a path to the nomination.
