NBC gets the rights for World Cups of a variety of rugby nature from now through 2023. I can't decide if $10 Million + a profit sharing deal is cheap, expensive, or fair. Also interesting to see that the Giants will be booted from AT&T Park for a 3 day weekend in 2018 for the Sevens World Cup (which is different from the 7s world tour that hits Vegas and other cities around the world every year). USA is currently ranked 5th in this years world tour.

A report out of Scotland says Washington DC (and South Africa) will get a top flight pro rugby team to play in the Guiness12 (which will become the Guiness14). Apparently this is an international pro rugby league. DC would enter in 2018/19 and play at the new Audi Field (DC United's new stadium).
Re: Rugby Gets Its Own Thread (and gnarly ears)
The BBC last week last week had the story of two SA teams joining the PRO12, the Cheetahs & the Kings. It's been rumored for a while about have N. American teams join, I have seen Boston, Toronto and Houston mentioned but not DC.wlu_lax6 wrote:A report out of Scotland says Washington DC (and South Africa) will get a top flight pro rugby team to play in the Guiness12 (which will become the Guiness14). NBC had the rights the RWC before, but just showed US group games with the semis & final on Universal Sports, the rest was behind a paywall. The only way this is a good deal is if game all are shown on shown on NBC Sports. It shouldn't be a problem as the next RWC will be in Japan and so all games will overnight, so the only clash should be with infomercials.

Did anyone else get sucked into watching 7s world cup this weekend? Looks like they did a good job get folks to show up to watch in San Francisco. What a enjoyable sport to watch.

I tried to, but yesterday was a cluster f trying to find things. Way too many channels showing replays and then women's rugby. Confusing.

Estimates are for Japan to see big economic boost by hosting the 2019 world cup. I have a buddy who is going for it.

Friend of mine is a rugby fanatic who lived in Japan for 15 years or so. He's going for sure.wlu_lax6 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 12:33 pm Estimates are for Japan to see big economic boost by hosting the 2019 world cup. I have a buddy who is going for it.

When i went t Japan, he recommended a fantastic restaurant near the Ginza in Tokyo that is run by an old Rugby player. I can get the name of it if he wants. Great food and should be nuts during the tournament.

Maybe Argentina can upset France.

Re: Rugby Gets Its Own Thread (and gnarly ears)
Not sure that would be an upset as both are tier 1 teams, most of the Argentine team play with the Jaguares in Super rugby and so will be very familiar with each other.
Re: Rugby Gets Its Own Thread (and gnarly ears)
Did not catch any games this morning but with England beating Tonga 35-3, could be a long morning for the US on Thursday.
Re: Rugby Gets Its Own Thread (and gnarly ears)
First upset, Uruguay beat Fiji 30-27
