Reading the story and the evidence they had, how did this guy escape detection for so long? He wasn't exactly the most careful of serial killers.

Cops must love TV shows and movies about the police. And race issues aside (and I am not discounting them as being a factor in this case), there have been a couple of white serial rapists/killers up here who had been suspects, had been questioned by investigators and were not charged... and then went on to kill again.
