The thing that won't get talked about that should was Hodgson getting Wilshere ready to sub on instead of Vardy when the game was still 0-0. If Dier hadn't scored, he would have looked like an even bigger idiot.

Stunning finish. Agree wholly about not bringing in Vardy. And as much as I love Harry Kane, he was a complete nonentity in this game.

The game with Wales should be an epic.

One note on the brawling that took place earlier (and is probably raging now between the two sets of drunkest fans on the continent). in the Telegraph, this is the headline:
England fan fighting for his life and dozens more injured as English fans and Russian thugs clash at Euro 2016 in Marseille
Damn those Russian thugs for ruining a pleasant outing by English fans!

Never. I love England, and if I was a hooligan, I'd probably avoid this game. and then show up to the Wales game extra pumped up.

WC2018 will be fun if England qualifies. Or Ukraine. Or Poland. Or Germany. Ah, it will just be fun.

the russian security/police will probably be less cordial towards hooligans. Granted, it will still be russians fighting others, but they will have spécial gear.

They aren't the only ones

England/France/USA/Netherlands/Portugal/Brazil all follow that template

Of course, ESPN would have Tommy Smyth doing this game. Almost rooting for Sweden now so he tones down the leprechaun antics.

Back from the Spain Czech game. Czechs were weaker than expected, even if their defense was solid, although à bit Lucky, for most of the game. Great crowd.
Will Iniesta ever stop being amazing ?
At times, it looked like Sybian's criticism for arsenal tendency to over complicate attacking phases was also true for Spain. They need to shoot a few times from outside the box. And Yes, I know it s their style, but it can help to have that option.

Fuck off, Scholes could down pints with the best of 'em.

I'm rooting for Wales, partially for their long wait to play in a big tournament and partially due to my daughter's love for Ramsey. Not even the horrible blonde hair could turn her away, though she strongly disapproved.

I imagine with a win under there belts the Welsh are a point away from a knockout place. Glad to read about some support from the Swamp, for me they are Portugal lite - Solid structure and defensively ok, with a superstar up top...

I'll do you one better, and admit that Wales is better than the US! I can't wait to read about all the Welsh self-orchiectomies* when Wales beats England.

This was a pretty good back and forth game in the first half. Italy content (catenaccio-ent?) to sit back and defend then try to get loose on a counter. Belgium has had some good buildups but really only two good shots.

Belgium seemed to quit after that ridiculous double miss, and now they might have some goal difference issues down the road.

That was one of the more fun (maybe THE most fun) games of the tournament I think if for nothing else that it wasn't very chippy and both teams were able to move freely without a lot of fouls.

I agree. There was a lot of action. It seemed end to end. Not a lot of midfield kicking it around and probing, but both teams went towards the goal when they got possession.

Italy had to purposely foul a few times (4 yellows) but yeah Italy is actually really fun going forward.

I just read that an estimated 10% of Iceland's entire population is now in France for the tournament!
