Using Mom's death to get sympathy sex ? Closing deal and rubbing it in Pete's face ? Having a stewardess as fuck buddy and scheme partner ? I love Successfull Sterling !!

This episode was fantastic. Even Ormond's French was good. My favorite small moment may be Ginsberg blurting out "You had to write that down ?" to Roger. Cut Megan/Betty's storylines and give me more Ginsberg/Stan (his "of course that's what makes it so awesome" from a while ago is my front runner to the season's funniest bit).

I read this and thought, "I thought she was French?" Then realized I confused her with Juliette Binoche. But now, I have to ask, are these the same person? Have Binoche and Ormand ever been seen in the same place?

(Oh wait. One can act; the other just looks either confused or disgusted, depending on the scene.)

1968 was a fucking horrible year. What other serious shit happened?

The episode itself was awesome. Great lines. Good storylines. I liked how Don got Ted drunk and then Ted scared Don shitless with the flight through the weather.

And shocker! Pete Campbell has a crazy mother. Who'da thunk that, right? /sarcasm

Tet offensive, and the opposition to the war becoming widespread at home (think Al Qaada soldiers overrunning the US Embassy in Iraq and nearly capturing the city of Baghdad in 2004). Seizure of the USS Pueblo by North Korea. Massive student riots and near revolution in France. King murdered, and in reaction riots in 150 American cities. Serious student riots on dozens of US college campuses, including students taking over the admin building of an Ivy League university (Columbia). Incumbent president declines to run for re-election, essentially abdicating (imagine dubya deciding not to run in 2004 because of failure in Iraq and opposition to the war, and Michelle Bachmann getting nearly as many votes as he in the New Hampshire Primary). Russian tanks roll into Prague to crush democracy movement (think Tienamen Square). Bobby Kennedy, the likely next president, murdered. Major urban riots in the summer. Delegates and newsmen beaten on the floor of the Democratic Convention by political thugs and security guards, while a police riot rages in the streets. Fucking Nixon rises like a political vampire to win election (think had Al Gore after losing to Bush ran for governor of Tennessee in 2002, and lost. And election night, instead of graciously accepting defeat, told the press and the country to fuck off, that he was never again gonna run for anything or even ever give another press conference. Then came back to win the presidency in 2008). Riots in Mexico City cast doubts on the Olympics coming off. Black USA athletes bow heads and raise a gloved fist during medal ceremony and national anthem. The Tigers win the series. Man travels beyond the immediate gravitational pull of Earth, to Moon orbit and return safely (Apollo 8).

I was 11 years old, very aware of the world and of news events. I 'worked' on Kennedy's campaign. I attended a speech and rally five days before the election; dropped my Brownie camera and broke it, chasing his open-air car afterward. I went to an anti-war rally on the college campus across the street from my middle school.

I saw the whole damn year unfold. Might have something to do with my cynicism. Just sayin'.

Michael Uppendahl. Just double checked. This was his 9th episode. Most recent to this was episode 4 of this season. I don't recall all the episodes off the top of my head when reading the synopses, but it seems like this was his weirdest.

So what was that stuff they all took? The doctor said B12 and other things and injected it into their asses. I'm guessing Roger Clemens was on the same shit.

Best line of the episode was Bobby: Are we negroes?

I think the doctor said a 'mild stimulant'. The preferred drug in the mid-60s was dextroamphetamine. It worked so well for high powered businessmen, baseball players (greenies) and soldiers in Vietnam (as well as for Kennedy and Hitler) we started feeding an analogue (Ritalin™) to our children.
Best line of the episode was Bobby: Are we negroes?
I completely lost it.

This guy just cracks me up every Monday:

Mad Men Power Rankings, Episode 613: 'In Care Of'
9. Los Angeles (last week: not ranked)

It's better than Detroit; it seems we can all agree on that. Nobody moves to Detroit to get a fresh start. They move there for Chevy, or they move there to get shot in the face, or they move there to get humiliated by their total inability to operate a yellow sports car.

Los Angeles: Come for the sunshine, stay for the possibility of total reinvention. And the tacos. Detroit doesn't have tacos.

The coolest character, who always gets the best laugh lines, quipped, "You know how it is in Detroit; it's all fun and games, until they shoot you in the face."

You're just missing out a dopey inside joke, spread to referencing the 'noodge brian by slapping Detroit' Swamp meme. nothing more. Not missing anything.

Now that seems friggin' cool. And if it's even the slightest bit true, Matthew Weiner would have a conniption fit because of how controlling he is over this series.

I'm going to miss the fuck out of this show. I'm very interested in the existential angle, tipped by "Is That All There Is?".
Mark LIsanti wrote:As long as we’re discussing “Classic Don,” we would be remiss if we failed to mention the encounter with the waitress. Classic, again, in the sense that lingering eye contact with a member of the opposite sex resulted in near-instantaneous copulation. The Chevy Draper goes from zero to inside you in under five seconds. After the ride’s over, he can toss one more waitress into the need pit. Maybe the eternally tumbling stewardesses and ex-wives and elementary school teachers and coat-check girls and dead department store heads will keep her company.
As well as I will miss reading this every Monday Morning:

I was surprised that the song that closed the episode was released that early. Looked it up, song was released in mid '69 in UK, but not until '72 in the us. I would've guessed '78 or so. Boy that rock star was so far ahead of his time. Based on my interpretation of that song, Don will be shooting heroin next week.
