How many more years before tourists kill Iceland? Its just a matter of time now if it hasn't already happened.

One thing you could count on from these two teams was some incredible anthems.

It's 1848 all over again.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I'm told it's already pretty unbearable in the summer. I haven't been because it's so insanely expensive. If you already live in a relatively cold part of the US, best time to visit is February or March since the nights aren't as long (as December/January) and it's quite affordable. The weather is warmer from November to March than most of the northern U.S.

Man, that sounds like a great place to be right now.

Icelandic telecoms company Síminn has agreed to open its pay channels for all football matches in the ongoing Euro 2016 football finals for patients at the children’s ward at Iceland’s national hospital in Reykjavik.

Síminn was urged to provide this service to young football fans who find themselves in hospital at this exciting time for Iceland, and quickly agreed.

They even went one better, extending the free access to matches on TV to the whole hospital, other health centres throughout the country, and residential and nursing homes.

If the French people are trying to make folks from around the world watching the tournament make sure they never want to visit France they're doing a good job.

(I don't pretend to know why they're striking/protesting -- I'm sure they have their reasons -- but I don't think making future tourists think twice about visiting is the best way to go about it.)

I think striking during a major event is a common tactic in Europe. I was in Ireland in 1994, and a bartenders' union in Dublin went on strike when the World Cup started. Fortunately the bars I went to were unaffected.

By the way. Hungary. Damn. So much for Austria being a dark horse to win the whole thing. Though they're obviously not done. But this was a game Austria had to at least get a draw in.

This strike has been going on for three months. It is not specifically against this event.

Isn't that exactly the point? The government is going to worry more about the international look than the people who are on strike.

Sad but true.

I'll be at the France Albania game tomorrow. A game we lost 1-0 last year (yes we were the phonies in the qualifying group but still). Combined with the lackluster opening game, I demand lots of goals. French goals.

My daughter told me about this guy. Apparently those are his lucky sweat pants.

And by the end of the game, they were covered in wet patches, grass stains and even had a rip. Classic.

And I have known a number of Portuguese people, and they are by and large really nice people with good senses of humour.

But I hate their soccer team as much as any team in sport. Whiners, divers and goons who choke on the big stage.

And Pepe.

Shots fired back
“Obviously we’re not going to create as much chances as a fantastic team like Portugal but his comments are the reason why Messi is always going to be one step ahead of him. You wouldn’t expect Messi to say that. It shows we got under his skin. It was lovely to hear that.”

Ronaldo ended the game embroiled in an argument with the referee and, despite his reluctance to shake hands with Iceland’s players, did so with the captain Aron Gunnarsson.

Arnason added: “It makes it even sweeter when he’s a sore loser like that. He can say whatever he wants. He didn’t really get a chance. He got one and he couldn’t put it away. What can I say? Sore loser. Tough shit. What does he expect – for us to play like Barcelona against him? He fannies about and dives around.”

They've got very clear video of a dude setting off a flare in the stands after their goal. Not sure if that counts as the final straw or marked improvement.
