Premier League 2016/2017 and other Euro League Talk

Post by govmentchedda »

Have I told you how excited I am for next year's Premier League?

Man U signs Bailly, will likely sign Ibra at the end of the month, is in discussions to resign Pogba, there's certainly more yet unannounced.

Conte, fresh off dropping Pirlo (understandable) and Giovinco (insane) from Italy, is taking over at hated Chelsea.

Klopp gonna Klopp.

Wenger going for Vardy, and maybe Mahrez.

Pep arriving at City for fresh rounds of tete a tete with Jose.

Koeman moving to Everton (seems like a lateral move to me, but apparently Everton are a much bigger club in England).

Fat Rafa trying to turn Tyneside's submarine back into a boat that actually floats on water.

Haven't even mentioned Tottenham yet.

Rebecca Lowe returning from maternity leave.

This season is going to be filled with so much narrative.

Spurs seem poised to sign Vincent Janssen - 21 and top scorer in the Netherlands last year.

Also known as the best Dutch player since Marco van Basten.

Not ideal. De Gea implicated in some kind of rape case. Very odd story, really hope it's empty for more than just De Gea reasons.

Victor Wanyama is about to join Tottenham for just £12m according to Sky. That's a ridiculous piece of business .Levy must have some compromising pictures of Ralph Krueger or whoever is in charge of transfers at Southampton right now. No wonder Koeman wanted to move.

Meanwhile you see the first ridiculous reaction to the new TV deal. Leicester have been trying to sign Troy Deeney for a while, but Watford have again rejected the latest bid which was £25m according to Sky. Unbelievable stuff ... 25 million pounds doesn't even get you Troy fucking Deeney! Might as well stop negotiating transfers with other EPL clubs and focus on buying foreign players if that's what the English market is going to look like ...

Southampton has been pillaged so badly over the last few years.

But that Spurs midfield just gets better and better.

Blanc and his staff are out from PSG. Win you league by 30 points but don't go past the round of 8 in the CL and you are out. Maybe it has to do with not keeping Zlatan happy.

Also indicative of how crappy Ligue 1 is.

On the Guardian football weekly podcast, one of the regulars (can't remember who) made a comment that other than a couple of teams, Ligue 1 is very comparable to MLS.

And categorize this is being entirely predictable, but no more than an hour after Belgium's demolition of Hungary, the rumours of Michy Batshuayi coming to Tottenham had already begun!

He got kicked because he was a poor tactician who shit on himself for the City game with a new ill-advised and never-rehearsed formation, leading some players to openly complain how unprepared the team was, which is a récurrent critic (it has often ben implied that most of the actual training during the week is done by his deputy). Same stuff happened when he was coaching les Bleus, he just can't find out how to get out of a bad situation. Sometimes players bailed him out, but when they were not great, it was over.
Deschamps has shown Twice during this euro alone that he has backup plans and/or is ready to trash his game plan at half time if it doesnt work. Blanc just hopes something will happen.

I really enjoy the early parts of Europa and CL qualification. You get introduced to teams that you never hear from (aside from you folks who spend time on the Manager games).

Today Celtic play Lincoln Red Imps. Red Imps are a member of the Gibraltar Premier Division, founded in 1976, and the 5000 seat stadium is on Winston Churchill Avenue. Going down the Gibraltar football wikipedia rabbit hole you find teams like F.C. Magpies (A.K.A Bruno's Magpies) and F.C. Hound Dogs.

Bruno's are the first club in Gibraltar to have a matchday programme and serve Beers and Burgers

There is also a team called Manchester 62 (which was previously called Manchester United)

Gibraltar is tiny, 2.6 square miles. Like twice the size of Central Park. And they have a Premier Division, and lower divisions. Awesome.

going further down the rabbit hole, the entire Gibraltar premier league plays in that stadium.

Lincoln Red Imps have won the title 14 years in row. The entered the Champions League in 2015 where they lose first round but in subsequent years they have won in the 1st round each year beating Andorran and Estonian opponents respectively.

Official.

Rodgers Says No Embarrassment In This Loss
Brendan Rodgers' first competitive game as manager of the former European Cup winners ended in a 1-0 defeat Lincoln Red Imps whose team contain a fireman, taxi driver, teacher and a customs officer.

Rated the 451st best team in Europe, the Hoops lost to a goal from Lee Casciaro, a 34-year-old policeman.
You know, this is probably more shocking than Iceland beating England.

Celtic play in front of 65,000 every home game.
