I know some sailors who have been in Rio for some "pre-Olympics" type events. They say the water is completely disgusting.

The World Cup and Olympic money was supposed to help clean that up. Instead the Olympics keep getting more expensive and the taxes keep going up. Brazillians pay for these events twice and get nothing out of it. Qu'elle disastre.

He's worked a lot of Olympics and says that what's going on in Brazil makes the Greeks look organized.

We're going to have Simone Biles, the 3-time reigning all-around gymnastics champ, and maybe Gabby Douglas, but McKayla Maroney won't join them as she's hanging them up.

US of A up 1-0 at halftime in leg 1 of playoff v. Columbia. Columbia is the better team but the U.S. had a really nice text book play to get a goal by Gil. Away goal is nice too. U.S. goalie is good (starter for Molde). I expect Columbia to get 1 or 2 in the 2nd half. It is HOT (102 degrees).

1-1 final. Good result for U23s. Can't play for 0-0 next week, but nice to know it's there for the taking.

We're going to be without The Brow, and now Chris Paul is going to take off for Rio. Curry, Irving, and Westbrook are locks; do we pick up Wall or Lillard as a 4th PG?

"Welcome To Hell" warn Rio Police

Those are off-duty Rio cops welcoming tourists to their fair city.
Elsewhere in the city police staged other demonstrations against the late payment of salaries and a lack of basic necessities like car fuel and toilet paper.

Excellent article about the incompetence and corruption surrounding the 1976 Olympics as well as the lingering effects those games had on the city of Montreal.

Brendon de Jonge skipping because missing the two events puts he PGA tour card at too much risk. De Jonge has missed the cut 15 times in 19 starts this year, plunging to No. 160 in the FedEx Cup standings.

Yeah losing the Greenbrier hurt some of the pros at the lower end of the money list. The 2nd-tier tourneys are places where they can get into a safer card situation. It is a shame because guys like de Jonge skipping means the country likely loses its entry in the event (same thing when Vijay skips).
