2016/17 Bensell Premier League Fantasy Football

Post by wlu_lax6 »

Okay so I have renewed the league. Based on complaining last year I have set it as 14 teams and placed the top 14 teams in the league. I am more than happy to move it to 20 again but am hoping someone else will start up the Unknown Championship division so we can start promotion/relegation again.

Any thought to making this a keeper league, or can we not do that because of the promotion/relegation we do between Swamp leagues?

I thought about that but with promotion and relegation we probably should start fresh. That being said, if we end up expanding to a 20 team league again because nobody can get a 2nd division, I say we put that in starting next year.

Okay so I set the draft time
Date: Saturday August 27, 2016
Time: 8:00 am Eastern

Start your complaining and counter proposals now.

Also currently a 14 team league. If any of the 6 or were not in the league last year but want in, raise it now so we can decide to expand the number of teams or restart the Unknown League.

I'll start the Unknown back up with the 6 (plus whomever)

I can probably get sometime Swamper RSL in the fold (he's a sucker for leagues.)

So we can strive for 14, but get by with 10 or 12 right?

also, I think that these should be switched to auction format. Too much rides on the luck of getting an early pick.

Isn't football probably the easiest to win from any spot? Half the first round ends up hurt or benched and even if all your guys stay healthy, someone else's lucky ass waiver claim carries them for 10 weeks.

Problem with auction is you can't really easily auto draft in auction format. The league has people from Wales -> West Coast. Way too hard to get a draft time that works for everyone. So snake draft it is. Should be a bit less luck with 14 teams instead of 20. Also with 20 we will have deeper talent on the waiver wire. So active managers should do better.

What scoring do you guys use? I'm looking to set one up and most scoring seems pretty dumb where you basically pick goal scorers then guys you know will get a lot of time with good clubs.

I agree with the point made above by Ryan that football benefits less from auction drafting than other sports. So, I'd prefer we keep it a standard draft.

As an aside, as some of you know, we have done an auction draft for a few years now in the Swamp fantasy hockey league. I like the format a lot for hockey, but it would really be a ton better if half the guys weren't auto-drafting. Auto-drafting an auction fucks things up for the both drafter and for the guys actively participating.

We've used the standard scoring with the addition of PPR IIRC.

So, commish wlu/lax - are you committed to holding our draft at 5:00 in the morning pacific time next Saturday? Just my opinion, but I find that timing quite a bit less than optimal.

No. I am more than happy to find another time. Remember it has to work for our UK participant and Left Coasters. So I will counter with another time if anyone can propose a better one before Tuesday (2 days before game 1)

I'd suggest 3 or 4 hours later, on Saturday or Sunday. That would still be 4 or 5 pm in the UK. Thanks

Any time on Saturday would be fine for me. Sunday, before 5pm, would not work. However, if Sunday is the agreed-upon date, I can just set up my draft picks ahead of time, and hope for the best.

Have we figured out who want's in or been relegated to Unknown? I can set up today/tonight.

I'd prefer to use ESPN so I have all leagues in one place, but will create in whatever the people want.

In so far:

Vinnie's Genius Team (?)
Reaper (?)

Looks like you already have the six who were relegated from Premiership when wlu_lax cut it from 20 teams to 14. What you need now are the people who were in Unknown last year plus any additions.

btw, Reaper is hiphop.
