One day you guys will listen to me. I can eerily predict when the Lions will win or lose these days but ironically hate to bet on them.

I just saw the final shot by Tennessee to tie it up v Oakland.

Sure looked like a defensive pass interference. Odd they got it right on Andre Johnson two plays prior.

Three tough ones in a row for Tennessee in that last sequence. First down at the 4! No, wait, late hit on Tennessee moves it back. Touchdown! No, wait, pass interference on Tennessee moves it back. PI in the end zone! No, wait, no flag on the play. Raiders win.

Of course the Browns force a late fumble and miss the FG.

Except that I called them beating Indy as a 4 pt road dog and losing to Tennessee as a 6 pt home favorite also.

Speaking of which I have no sympathy for Tennessee getting some sketchy calls after that shitshow last week. What comes around goes around.

Bills much improved, but Arizona looked like garbage today in Buffalo. Offence, defence and special teams, completely dominated throughout.

The Bengals/Broncos game was a disgrace. This one is on the Bengal coaching staff...complete refusal to adjust after the half. I would think getting beat on third down blitzes twice would cause you to rethink your strategy the third time.

Jason Garrett just challenged the spot of the football on a completion where Jason Witten was pushed out at about the 1 yard line. He wanted a touchdown. The ruling on the field was upheld and on the very next play Prescott ran it in from the 1.

That was the stupidest fucking challenge ever.

Can someone explain illegal touching to me? SD got an extra play at the end of the Colts game because the Colts punted it with 6 seconds left, SD went for an all out block and McAfee just pooched it over their heads to an empty backfield. The Colts then ran down and downed the ball before SD got back to it. Is that not legal? How is that different than a punt landing at the 2 and the punt team falling on it to pin them deep? I was terribly confused.

YEah. So basically there is no downing the ball? That's always been a violation, it just doesn't carry any yardage penalty.

But as it reads, only when they don't send a return man back?

Or have we been praising the violation of downing the ball at the 1 for all these years?

What is the purpose of the rule? I just don't understand it. They're supposed to go down there and stand around it until the official blows it dead? What a goofy part of the sport.

When they down it at the one, it is still a violation. But since there is no penalty, the offense gets the next play. But since it was at the end there is a free play. Dumb rule, but easy enough to understand.

So again, why is this a rule? Just an easier way of writing the kicking team cannot recover the ball unless the receiving team touches it first? I understand it, it just doesn't seem necessary.

I would assume it is so the kicking team cannot knock the ball back towards the endzone or out of bounds. Sure it is a 'downed' punt, but the violation ends the play and gives the offense a 'free' play.

Very strange that a penalty doesn't have any yards penalized.

For a crazy comparison, in the CFL on a punt there are no fair catches and the kicking team must give 5 yards to the returner or else it's a 5 yard penalty (15 yard penalty if the returner catches the ball in the air). The only exception is the punter who is the only player 'onside' when the ball is kicked and if he recovers the ball, the kicking team gains possession.
