I really didn't care for that signing; seems like the exact type of veteran who will provide guaranteed low production while blocking a perhaps better AHL kid.
(Worth noting: I said this about Pouliot too. And Stempniak. I did like Stalberg. 1/3 on these calls.)

Rumor the Vesey chase is down to NYR and Chicago. I feel like this is where the NHL has to go all MLS and place him where it would be in the best interest of the league.

... whose prior GM traded away 6 of 8 1st + 2nd round picks over the last four years and sees his team with a dearth of cheap, pro-level talent.
Re: 2016 NHL Offseason Thread
So when a team drafts a player, they hold the right to sign him for four years?
Who knows? Maybe, you were kidnapped, tied up, taken away and held for ransom.

Re: 2016 NHL Offseason Thread
Yeah, I thought it was three but looks like four based on Hayes and Vesey. I think it's a really good system that needs no modifications atleast for now.
Re: 2016 NHL Offseason Thread
Congrats, Mr. D.
But, I wonder if expectations aren't a bit unrealistic for this kid. He hasn't played a second of pro hockey yet, and he's expected to fill a top six forward role in the NHL under the bright lights of the biggest market. He might not be ready quite yet, but the big city media won't be in a forgiving mood if that's the case.

Re: 2016 NHL Offseason Thread
I'm pretty sure he picked us because he'd be in a pretty safe 3rd line role while all the insane pre-debut expectations were heaped on Buchnevich.
Re: 2016 NHL Offseason Thread
I guess the counterpoint to that tempered enthusiasm is saying that everything about him being a "free late first rounder" is an understatement. If he were in this past draft, he's gone way before the 30th pick because of his established NHL level floor. He doesn't have Eichel level potential, but he also isn't a risk of never making it like half of the 30ths are.

If he plays college hockey, otherwise it's two years.

Whats kinda weird is that the hit on MacArthur is being treated like every one of those hits should always be treated. Funny how logical everyone can be when fandom bias is thrown out.
Re: 2016 NHL Offseason Thread
I finally read up on that hit. Sieloff's wiki page ha a funny reference to it, now.mister d wrote:Whats kinda weird is that the hit on MacArthur is being treated like every one of those hits should always be treated. Funny how logical everyone can be when fandom bias is thrown out.
Most people would describe the hit as greasy or even go as far as to say it was frigged. Sadly, his actions likely will result in him pumping gas for the rest of his life, or worse; he may end up getting traded to the Montreal Canadians for a tin of dip.

Sounds like there will be no suspension for Gudas. Hjalmerson got 1 preseason and 1 regular season game for his hit on Rattie.

Can't wait for the complete shitstorm of shit when a player is finally paralyzed and the DoPS and league go crazy trying to pretend this was truly the worst hit ever and that their history of (softly) punishing the result didn't allow the inevitable to happen.

I assume you are joking. Besides being brand new to the team, Lucic is such a hothead, and I don't think I've ever heard of him being described as a leader or anything. McDavid was captain of Team North America, was captain on his junior team, is a generational talent, and is said to be mature beyond his years.mister d wrote:I'm not sure announcing Lucic would have knocked me on my ass.

Re: 2016 NHL Offseason Thread
phhhhffffttt a guy playing only 46 games in the NHL should never be captain. He should have never been North America's captain. Oilers are a joke.

Re: 2016 NHL Offseason Thread
Not joking even a little bit. I wouldn't have been shocked in the least if the FO of a young team that just paid Lucic huge money (and traded away Taylor Goddamn Hall) picked Lucic.sancarlos wrote:I assume you are joking. Landeskog and Crosby have done alright as captains

Re: 2016 NHL Offseason Thread
Also really excited the Rangers placed two potentially useful depth forwards on waivers while holding tight to Glass and Lapierre. AV just can't fucking quit "sandpapery" veterans and the FO seems to refuse to step in.

1.) I need to keep the schedule for championship white house appearances on my calendar. I work a few blocks and am sure if I time it right I can catch the teams entering from 18th or Penn avenue.rass wrote:

Re: 2016 NHL Offseason Thread
You're splitting hairs. The point is that there is established precedent in the NHL for young stars to be named captain. Crosby and Landeskog were both teenagers when named captain, just like McDavid. McDavid is starting his second year (just as was the case for Landeskog) and he's certainly established in the league, despite his injury last season. Crosby was actually offered the captaincy earlier, but finally accepted it at the end of his second season.degenerasian wrote:Crosby had played 2 full seasons. So the Rangers made all the right decisions with their roster. I feel incredibly good about our forwards and goalie and incredibly bad about our defense. Like as good as ever on the former and as bad as ever on the latter.
