Did that mitigate the pain at all? I know you got to watch a bunch of titles with the Tigers, Pistons, and Wings, so I already know the answer.

I think after the Cavs this past June, 0-16 wouldn't be too bad. And if the Indians pull it off, who gives a damn about the Browns?
That's fair. But the sting of 0-16 is hard to explain and will never go away. But the Wings were a nice salve that year.

The whole "process" thing sounds like a bullshit distraction. The franchise is garbage, but I could start listing examples of teams that went from 3-13 to the playoffs within a season or two. This Browns team is nowhere near that. It makes me laugh that Joe Haden is considered a star and he gets burned by Chris Hogan twice.

By talking about a process scenario, you tell the fans to shut up, pay for tickets and don;t complain because this time we are being bad on purpose. Meanwhile, there is not a single position where that Browns team is better than near the bottom of the league. So where is the nucleus?

Feh!

But on the bright side - the Bills beat a bad, bad first place team today.

Coming right after the fake punt?

If the idea is to make an idiotic gamble and then a bad conservative call, than his plan worked to perfection. Maybe I won;t complain so much about Rex for a couple of weeks?

before that. down 23-16 4th and goal at the 5 with 6 minutes left he kicked a FG. Then the Bills went 3 and out and then the Rams did the fake punt.
THEN the Bills have 2nd and goal at the 2 (23-19) and lost 2 yards back to the 4. Illegal shift and Fisher TAKES the penalty to have 2nd down again. Crazy.

Oh, I know - my question was more along the lines of "can you believe he did that after the fake punt?"

I had a Dick Jauron flashback when they sent the FG unit out there.

No coach ever got more mileage out of a single Super Bowl appearance than Jeff Fisher. God, he sucks.

Is it ever!

A member of the Toronto Browns Backers (don't ask) was in Cleveland for the game yesterday, and angrily posted that there seemed to be as many Pats fans as Browns fans in the stadium. Winning 3 of 26 games will do that.

They are not going 0-16. Hue will beat Marvin, at least once.

No kidding. If the rumored extension for him is a real thing, they're going to end up wasting Gurley's best years and the chances of Goff becoming a solid quarterback or better diminish significantly.

It's amazing - his record as Rams coach is 30-38. I guess while Kroenke was busy figuring out ways to screw St. Louis, the success of his football team was of little importance.

From the Wikipedia:
Assistant coaches under Jeff Fisher who have become NFL head coaches:

Gregg Williams, Buffalo Bills (2001–2003)
Jim Schwartz, Detroit Lions (2009–2013)
Mike Munchak, Tennessee Titans (2011–2013)
After Fisher's tutelage, Williams, Schwartz, and Munchak have cumulatively posted 52 wins and 84 losses, or a winning percentage of approximately 38.2%.

Have any of them ever really had a good team? Maybe Schwartz at the end of his Lions tenure. It's hard to defend Fisher these days but his teams are like, always hot garbage. Wonder how much of that is his doing and how much is the front offices.

Fair. Worth noting that 9-23 of Schwartz' record was the two years after the 0-16 season. Getting to 10-6 and the playoffs three seasons later was actually quite an accomplishment I think (and if you don't believe that look at all of the teams perpetually rebuilding from better situations).

I think Schwartz might be a half-decent head coach somewhere given another chance, though I don't think much about Munchak's head coaching potential. Williams is essentially toxic at this point.

He might also be in the "Norv Zone," great coordinator, not that great HC. Schwartz has done a good job with Philly so far this year, though some of it might be from the Eagles offense being on the field more than a minute at a time.

Those Lions had a great roster by the end, though. I think Schwartz and McDaniels both could make good HCs if they learn from their mistakes and get a second chance.

There's a half-decent chance McDaniels will be the next HC in Detroit ironically enough so I hope you're right.

(Pretty easy to assume Caldwell gets fired if Lions don't make playoffs. From there, it's not hard to imagine Bob Quinn bringing in someone he's theoretically comfortable with.)

McDaniels' Orton-year offense in Denver was a thing of beauty. He just let Josh McDaniels the GM get in the way.

I've been the number one Josh McDaniels hater around here, but based on commentary around here and a back and forth I had with a Denver sportswriter, I've come to agree that now he would be a good hire now for somebody. In Denver, his other problem besides Josh the GM was Josh the immature asshole, regarding how he dealt with people. I'm told that he's learned and grown since then.

No idea why they gave him so much power at the get go here. Seems like Elway isn't a half bad GM, they would have been a pretty good team (shudder.)

That, too. Some people learn quickly - hell, I haven't heard much about Chip Kelly's personality getting in the way in SF but I guess it hasn't been very long.
