A strange rules question just came up: the Giants blocked a Philly FG and began to run it back. Consistent with this being the Philly game, the returning player loses his mind and tries to lateral, causing a fumble and scrum in which the Giants recovered. Had Philly recovered, it's their first down, right? Otherwise, every blocked punt should look like the Benny Hill desperation lateral play.

Yes if there is a change of possession and the team that had fisrst turnover recovers a subsequent turnover on same play it is first down for them. It's not NFL but Kentucky did that earlier his year, and it was like 9 yards behind the original first down line.

I watched the 4th quarter of the Lions game yesterday, and as well as being hugely impressed by Stafford at the end of the game, I was amazed at Sam Bradford's look of scared confusion on the sideline.

Nuts in that there were 3 different blown calls, all to Seattle's benefit, which directly cost Buffalo 3 points. Awful officiating.

The last few seconds of the second quarter were an absolute clusterfuck by the refs. How in the hell is that not a personal foul on Sherman? Why is Carpenter kicking when the ref announced he had to be out for the rest of the game? And how the hell can the refs call delay of game when they stop standing over the ball when there's five seconds left on the play clock?

If my lip reading is correct, Rex Ryan said "They don't know what the fuck they're doing."

Ref makes the right call, or at the very least restarts the clock properly, that final drive of the game is the Bills aiming to get into field goal distance and then there's overtime.

That was a veteran crew that seemingly had no concept of how to officiate or manage the game. Just shocking.

That Sherman call was as obvious a call as there could be.

But the most egregious error was in not resetting the play clock before the kick.

Just an outrage.
